  1. Jones has shifted his position somewhat since before the flight.

That’s an admirable quality, being able to change your mind based on the evidence.

    1. I think he’d been coming around even before it (perhaps as a result of the first Dragon flight). I talked to him briefly at GLEX. After all, he’s now a consultant to a commercial space company (Planetary Resources).

    2. Tom Jones 1.0 is prominent among the cat-callers when Elon steps up to the plate and points his bat at the center field wall. The pitch comes. Mr. Musk swings and puts the ball over the fence. Tom Jones 2.0 suddenly appears and leads the cheers as Elon chugs around third base and plants his spikes on the plate. Why the sudden flip?

Jones is a ballplayer of the old school. He has clocked years on the roster of the big established franchise. He is not inclined toward being impressed with Johnny-come-lately expansion teams that lack a tradition and a stadium with a vine-covered outfield wall. But you can’t argue with the stats. The old team has a big roster but hasn’t got any new games scheduled. The new guys are taking on all comers. The thing about players is they like to play.
