  1. Interested Observer, a few reasons off the top of my head:

    * Presumably investors/backers want to see that the company is capable of selling a product, rather than just having more money thrown at them. Their resource is to wait 3-5 years until they start getting revenue from their satellites, which is probably a non-starter.
    * For a startup, having revenue (or even profit) as early as possible is a key goal, rather than just raising more money from investors
    * Planetary Resources wants to engage the public, and having literal buy-in from the public who’ll be eagerly watching how their purchase is progressing is a great way to do that.
