Of course they weren’t found before the fact. They didn’t fit any of Homeland Security’s threat criteria. They weren’t military veterans, pro-lifers or Republicans. Why, they were practically invisible.

Why is everyone piling on these two poor Jewish kids. Bob, where are you?
A massive database is only useful if you ask the right questions. If they weren’t connected to the enemy the regime was focused on, they wouldn’t be found.
I laughed when the Verizon story broke, only because that’s my carrier, and most of my incoming calls are telemarketer spam. Next time DryMaster Carpet Care calls, I’m going to answer by saying “Where are the goods?” in Pashto.
Yeah, they only had two warning from the Russians. They did an interview, and then let it drop. They did have the ability to deny the older brother reentry to the US (he’s not a citizen) but they did nothing.
It’s understandable, really; they only have so much manpower, and there are tea partiers to persecute. Priorities.
Hrmmm… Maybe they ought to tap the phones of people who are an even better fit for the terrorist profile, such as a person (with no known means of affording it) going to Pakistan for several weeks (and keeping the fact a secret for many years) and also associating with known terror bombers. If so, I know where such a person lives; 2000 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, DC.
Terrorist murderers are a PR problem: there’s a mess to clean up, but if you spin it right the Press will gobble up your BS platitudes as if it was the wisdom of the ages and you can even use the dead bodies as a speaker’s podium to preach your cause du jour- gun control always seems to be a favorite.
Those tea party types are an existential threat- why, not only can they get YOU kicked out of office, they can get your best catamites from the ‘other’ party kicked out too- and they might not even recognize the Gentlemen’s Agreement not to investigate or prosecute you after you’ve gone home. They’re a much bigger threat than any mere Jihadi bomber and the whole might of the government/media complex must be bent to stop them.
All pressure cookers must be registered with the august federal bureaucracy. Assault pressure cookers must be banned ex post facto in order to save the children. Owners of pressure cookers will be subject to body cavity searches semi-annually under this new law that protects children.
