  1. I really doubt any of those women had a clue about how their lives would change once their husbands signed on the dotted line.

    Up until then, they were part of a family that no one new about, living in a rat shack back water town no one knew existed.

    Now all of a sudden their husbands decide to become part of yet another government program so I suspect they figured all this would mean is moving to another rat shack, bug and snake infested dump which hadn’t been lived in for months or years, was probably thrown together in the 40’s, and which they – the women – would of course have to clean first before it became inhabitable. That was their experience.

    It’s possible that some or all of them sat and thought carefully about the socio-international-political aspects of the space program and understood that they were about to become media queens. But that wasn’t their experience up to that time.

    But their education came pretty fast as I recall – soon they were in Life Magazine and living in nice houses in Houston.
