  1. At this point, these are just formalities.

2nd amendment remedies would require a level of organization that only the left seems able to achieve.

    1. Just thinking out loud here:

I read organization as sort of a synonym for centralization and top-down control, so yes, the left is much better at it.

In getting too well organized, the right is susceptible to turning left.

If we truly believe in individual liberty and the free marketplace of ideas we must trust that individuals acting in their own best interest well act in concert even without a community organizer.

We are seeing this to a certain extent with the tea party in that there isn’t a single tea party organization, but rather many different ones each offering their own slightly different variation on the common theme.

  2. “…but we have the Second as well, if it comes to that.”

Four or five years ago I made similar statements in various comments sections, and I was called out LOUDLY by people who are fairly conservative politically. I was a loose cannon, reactionary idiot, skin head wannabe for even thinking that ‘gun nut stuff’ at some point. I now hear this stuff regularly.

Personally I’m not sure it’s a great idea to think this way. But when people get pushed far enough, they’ll jump out and do harsh things.

  3. the right is susceptible to turning left.

Which it does often. Even individuals still need a banner to rally around. The strength of the tea party is in keeping focused so that even people that identify with the left are able to agree and join.

As Der Schtumpy notes, the sea is changing. It doesn’t have to come to a 2nd amendment remedy, but it does have to come to something effective. The corruption is in our faces and everywhere we turn. It’s even giving prominent lefties some pause.

I’m for the Starship Troopers solution myself. We tried democracy and the Greeks were right about it thousands of years ago… it does not end well.
