  1. I don’t even know what to say. I never thought I would see the day a President sends a SWAT team after a journalist. And for the DHS to be sent in for “local crime event” it requires orders from someone with interagency authority. This comes from the top.

  2. “The documents, some which chronicled her sources and her work at the Times about problems inside the Homeland Security Department, were seized under a warrant to search for unregistered firearms and a “potato gun” suspected of belonging to her husband, Paul Flanagan, a Coast Guard employee. Mr. Flanagan has not been charged with any wrongdoing since the raid.”

Wow…to go in looking for unregistered firearms and …and…a “potato gun!….to come out with private documents regarding a story. Yes I see the documents were “cataloged on the search warrant inventory …” but that only enhances the idea that the gun search was a pretext.

    The flimsiest of pretexts.

And they could have checked what documents were obtained via FOIA before the raid.

And they could have served the warrant in broad daylight without the pre-dawn military attack:

“We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.” – Barack Obama

There was no reason to think these people a threat in any way. It smacks of the Nakoula arrest.

A horribly Fascist thing to do. They wanted to “send a message” to reporters who uncovered negative stuff about the administration. And, like Merkel, I know exactly who to blame:

    Barrack Obama.

    1. Bush created search warrants? I thought they were older than that. Perhaps you’re thinking Obama’s predecessor is Mussolini or Chavez.

    2. So, what is your point? I assume it is that Bush was a tyrant? If that is so, doesn’t that mean Obama is now a tyrant if he is using the tools of his tyrant predecessor?

You should be worried about there being a tyrant there at all, not whatever party he comes from.

      1. Otherwise you are admitting that Bush wasn’t a tyrant, and then I am not sure what your point is anymore.

      2. bush created tyranicall tools and methods, Obama has been more then
        willing to use them also.

The problem isn’t the man, it’s the tools.

        Take the tools away.

Every president for 50 years used J Edgar Hoovers dirty little confidential file system too.

The problem wasn’t nixon or LBJ or Ike. The problem was hoover.

Take hoover and his ‘confidential’ files out, and then, it becomes better.

        1. Obama is never responsible for his own actions is he? It doesn’t matter who created DHS, it matters how it is used. No one put a gun to Obama’s head and forced him to use his administration this way.

There are problems with the system but this is not a systemic problem. The problem in this case is the people in charge of the system.

Many beneficial technologies are dual use; it is the people in charge of those technologies that choose how they are used.

          1. Hey the House GOP is always welcome to impeach President Obama.

Why don’t you guys bust on Boehner to produce a bill of impeachment.

          2. No one in the Democrat party would support it, and you need both Houses of Congress to agree to it, so impeachment isn’t a realistic option. It is the same reason the Democrats didn’t impeach Bush. There wasn’t sufficient support for it.

          3. Hey, Democrats are free to hold Obama to the same standard they held Bush to and show their actions during the early 2000s were based on legitimate ideals and convictions and not just the letter behind someone’s name or the twang in their accent.

But why try and change the subject? The problem isn’t the system. The problem is the administration that takes a tool that can be used for good and turns it on his own people for nefarious purposes. Why Democrats are not holding Obama accountable I don’t know but I do know it has ruined their credibility on many subjects just like Obama himself has no credibility left.

        2. Now I remember dn-guy! We were in a Soviet labor camp together during the purges and he’s the one who kept whining “If only Stalin knew.”

I thought you died the night we all peed on you and threw you out in the snow. I’m so glad to see you survived.

        3. No, the problem is men, which is why they should not have those tools, which is the entire argument for limited government. But that doesn’t absolve anyone for using those tools wrongly.

        4. bush created tyranicall tools and methods, Obama has been more then
          willing to use them also.

Wasn’t one of The Community-Organizer-in-Chief’s many campaign promises to dismantle the worst parts of “the Bush regime”? Instead he is expanding upon the “tryranicall [sic] tools and methods”, yet you say nothing in condemnation of either the broken promises, or the actual tyranny. So why shouldn’t we assume that you approve of tyranny, at least when your side runs it?

        5. In the hands of a carpenter like my father, a hammer is a tool used to build homes, schools, business, churches and the like. In the hands of a thug, a hammer is a murder weapon.

It isn’t the tools, jackass, it’s the intent of the person using them.

          1. Well, I would argue the intent of the founders was to not give unlimited power (the tool) to anyone because it is too tempting to abuse it.

So, I argue that there are two problems. First, tools have been created that shouldn’t have been. Second, now corrupt people won’t have any barriers to their ambitions.

          2. If the tools were created for a legitimate purpuse but them misused, what can you do? The same basic technology that allows for vaccines against illness can be used to create biological weapons. You can’t have vaccines without the possibility of someone misusing the technology to cause harm.

  3. It’s not just the media. This is why the first act of the next tea party president will be to fire everyone (s)he has authority to and put a hatchetman as the head of every agency.

What to do about the media? A list of their transgressions should hound them out of jobs whenever they lack the ethics to do their jobs. The media is essential to a well functioning government.

How is it possible for blatant lies to continue to stand? How can crimes by government officials continue to be unpunished? Nixon did nothing compared to today’s criminal officials.
