From what I gathered from the story, neither 23andme or the FDA comes out looking good in this. I’m very interested in what 23andme is trying to do in terms of genetic testing. The issue is a Pandora’s box, but it really is already open. It’s current capability seems no worse than BMI in determining either risk of disease or appropriate treatment. But it does seem that 23andme is playing with the FDA’s ability to regulate it, which is cute and embarrassing to the FDA, but not something normally done by honest businesses.
