  1. Envy is one of the seven deadly sins for a reason. It is personally unproductive and ultimately devastating to everyone. I don’t like it that some people, seemingly undeservedly, become extremely wealthy any more than anyone else does. But, it doesn’t help me any to stew on it and, in the meantime, most of the wealthy do contribute far more to the common weal than they consume.

    And, consumption is the key variable, not mere money. The fact that a small group of people have more money than you makes little difference to the available pool of goods and services for your own consumption. The main thing it does is allow them to marshal resources to create new capacity for generating goods and services.

    Wealth in the economy is like temperature in a heat engine: you must have a differential to make it go.
