A “Paid Anti-Climate Science Operative”

Did you know this is what I am?

Steyn went on to quote paid anti-climate science operative Rand Simberg — an employee of the right-wing think tank the Competitive Enterprise Institute…

Me, neither. Guess my checks from Big Fossil Fuel and paychecks from CEI to “fight climate science” keep getting lost in the mail.

What ignorant reporting. For the record, I am not now, and have never been, an “employee” of CEI, though I was once paid by them as a contractor to do a policy paper on space property rights (which has nothing to do with climate change). I’m also continually amused by all of the salivation over the nonsensical notion that this lawsuit will put National Review out of business.

  1. I’m also amused at how articles like this pick their tags/topic listings for SEO, thus strengthening and perpetuating the very link between Sandusky and Mann that they wish to have broken.

  2. What’s amusing is these accusation of being a paid shill are far more actionable than calling Mann’s research fraudulent, since he’s been officially investigated for fraudulent research in a half a dozen whitewashes that either didn’t look at him (such as the British investigations) or dismissed most of the charges prior to carrying on with interviewing just him and his buddies.

“Did you commit any scientific misconduct?”
    “Nope.”
    “Well, that’s it then.”

  3. Hrmmmm.

Rand, are you quite sure you’re not being paid by those eeeevil oil companies? I’ve heard rumors that you’ve got your own 747 parked in your driveway, and Exxon lets you fill it up at one of their local gas stations for free, every time you taxi it through town. (Secretly, of course…)

Also… Are you quite sure that space property rights have nothing to do with global warming? You might be mistaken there if space property rights include Mars, because there is strong evidence of global warming on Mars. There’s also CO2 in its atmosphere..

    1. The author of that piece used to blog at Firedoglake, so I’m pretty sure he was already quite paranoid.

  4. I find it hugely amusing and satisfying that not only do you claim you did not get paid, but that you are being sued for your pro-bono work in the service of disinformation, and will have to pay. That’s rich beyond words.

    1. Wow, you chose that name?

While your comment was neither insightful or funny, it was rather negative toward Mr Simberg yet he let it go through moderation. Why would he do something like that? Is it because he believes in free speech or because he isn’t afraid to face criticism?

Now, why would Mann bring a suit? Is it because he doesn’t believe in free speech and is afraid to face criticism? And why do you support Mann in his lawsuit rather than the strong tradition of freedom of speech enshrined not only in our constitution but in our culture that was until recently supported by both political parties?

      Good day Mr Barfington.

    2. Actually, Rand will surely take in several million from Rawstory, which accused him of being paid by oil companies and said he was an employee of the CEI, both of which are laughably false and which show reckless disregard and complete lack of due diligence. 😀

  5. I guess they find it hard to believe anyone would spend so much effort on a topic without getting paid for it. But they underestimate your zeal for “Truth, Justice and the American Way”.

    1. “I guess they find it hard to believe anyone would spend so much effort on a topic without getting paid for it.”

It is hard for them to imagine since they make so much money personally and for their groups by supporting the cause.

    2. It’s said that Republicans think Democrats are stupid and Democrats think Republicans are evil. Similiarly, the Warmists can’t believe that anyone could possibly question AGW – Climate Change without being paid to do so. It’s heresy against their religion and must be punished.
