Competition works… if only SpaceX had some.
SpaceX competes against itself. They do like Andy Grove of Intel used to say. You have to make your own business obsolete.
I’ve worked for a couple of big aerospace companies over the years, and the one thing all of them have in common is an absolute reliance on government funding of everything. This makes perfect sense for defense contracts, but is inapplicable to commercial business. I’m really glad to see ULA say publicly that the fact Blue is financing the BE-4 puts them ahead “[b]y a far margin.” Maybe it will start to penetrate the big boys’ skulls that investing their own money will pay off.
