  1. It’s ancient science that termites, for instance, depend on gut bateria to break down otherwise indigestible wood cellulose. Similarly it is settled science that cows and other ruminants depend on different chambers of stomach, with different micro-biomes, to digest grass fibers.

Why would it be odd to investigate the idea that different bacteria in different individual guts would be differently optimized for, say, wheat fiber and calories, versus rice calories, or potato calories …?

  2. I looked up Priyanka Chopra’s diet and exercise secrets to see how she maintains her Miss World body. Answer found: Avoid workouts like the plague and eat tacos, cheeseburgers, pepperoni pizza, wings, and steak, steak, and more steak.

She thanks her parents for good genes, but I suspect gut bacteria and a high metabolism probably play a large role.

There was a cute photo of her pre-award show routine, I think from the People’s Choice Awards, showing her in her red-carpet gown with her face buried halfway in a cheeseburger. ^_^

She figures someday she’s bound to blow up like the blueberry girl in Willy Wonka, but I kind of doubt it.
