Trump’s Latest EO On Regulations

I like the idea conceptually, and it may even be legal (but the courts will have to rule on that), but it will be almost impossible to implement. But it’s long past time to dismantle the regulatory state; Congress has delegated far too much of its duties on to unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats.

[Afternoon update]

What does this mean for FAA’s rules on spaceflight?

  1. I don’t like it conceptually or otherwise.

He’s leaving it to the OMB to decide which two to cut for every new reg. The OMB is not organized to make policy decisions like that – how can the OMB adjudicate between EPA regs? It’s not much different than the OMB making regs.

I would much rather Trump decide what needs to be cut or, failing that (probably too big of a job for one guy), pick the agency that is thought to impose the biggest regulatory burden, and then give the responsible cabinet member the charge to choose regulations to dispose of. That cabinet member can create a team t make the decisions and report back with a lit in a week or 2 or 4. You can go one agency a month or some other method to spread the cuts.

  2. I should make it clear that I like the removal of Regulations. But I do not think that the criteria for removal is strictly dollars. It’s also freedom.

Many regulations issued by Obama destroyed a piece of personal freedom. Those should go too.
