  1. Seem to remember a Heinlein story – probably The Man Who Sold the Moon – where the protagonist was trying to convince a soft drink manufacturer that his rival company, 6+ (obviously meant to be 7-Up), would easily be able to write the 6+ logo across the face of the Moon. The cola maker would do well to help the protagonist get there first, to prevent that from happening.

  2. I wish they would do something about unsolicited spam mail, but I really would like them to do something about unsolicited phone calls. The Do Not Call registry seems more an invitation to call than something that prevents anything. If these terrestrial issues can’t be solved; then yeah, I don’t think they’ll be able to stop the exploitation of the sky.

    1. Nothing like waking from a deep sleep thinking there is an emergency when the phone rings at 3am only to find out you are in trouble with the IRS and the local constable can give you lower rates if you refinance this credit card you are pre-approved for and can use to pay for this nasty little virus to be removed from your free update to Windows 11.

  3. And now that I think about it… how would these cubesats produce the needed amount of light? If they’re using reflection, they’ll only be visible right after sunset or right before sunrise. If they’re going with artificial light, it’ll need to be quite bright and thus have significant power demands. They’ll also need to carry significant reaction mass to stay in a formation miles across.

  4. I live in L.A. where there’s so much backscatter one is lucky to see any real stars at night, never mind a swarm of smallsats playing at being a Jumbotron. But before anyone who actually has strong feelings about this proposal gets too bent out of shape, keep in mind these are Russians floating this idea. Russians!

Now be good little boys and girls and find something real to worry about.

    1. I thought we were supposed to be worried about the Russians? Will they be using these new ad sats for Trump in 2020?
