  1. The problem is that AFAIK cuprate superconductor research has stalled since the 1980s. Most of the superconductors which have found actual practical used aren’t cuprates either. AFAIK most cuprates aren’t useful for high power applications.

    Magnesium Diboride was talked about a lot a decade ago. That seems to have found more useful applications.
