  1. Eh, I can’t read that much emotive so-con blather, and that just reminds me why I don’t click PJM links, as a matter of general policy.

If that counts as porn for her, god help her (or Rush Limbaugh) if she ever sees actual porn.

    1. I mean, it’s HBO. They had full-frontal nudity sex scenes in the very first episode. How is it notporn, albeit, unlike most porn, with an actual plot?

      1. How do you show full-frontal nudity of two persons engaged in physical relations. Is there some unusual position involved?

        1. Most people would understand what I wrote to mean “It’s HBO, they showed boobs and simulated sex”, Paul.

I stopped watching a few episodes into Season 2, so I didn’t know, as other commenters said, that they had dialled back the sex.

But yeah, as also noted below, the books and the show are several kinds of porn.

      2. It is gratuitous nudity that doesn’t further the story and is as much porn as playboy is. They also cut way back on it when the SJW started complaining there weren’t enough penises.

  2. I bought the boxed set of the first 5 seasons a few years ago (on sale at Walmart for $40 if memory serves). No question the early episodes were porn, though they seemed to tone it down a bit over time. I quit after the red wedding. I’d never experienced a series where the creators seemed so intent on pissing the audience off. Almost every single character capable of generating even a smidgeon of sympathy was quickly dispatched with maximum gruesomeness, usually at the hands of one of the more despicable ones. That might work for awhile (“Boy, is he going to get what’s coming to him”), but for me it just got overwhelming. What kept me going as long as I did was the humor, particularly from Peter Dinklage. I think that guy’s comedy chops are way underrated.

At any rate, the porn issue doesn’t require the power button. There’s usually another button nearby with two arrows on it pointing to the right. That one works just as well.

      1. This clip would have benefited from full-frontal nudity.

        Along with most Congressional hearings.

          1. Um, all 535 of them? It would be more entertaining than the Game of Thrones clip.

            This is from Instapundit:

Bill Kristol: I am not familiar with this TV show I gather a lot of people are talking about called Game of Thrones. Could someone summarize the plot in a tweet or two? Thanks!

Anonymous reply: People don’t like who’s in charge, and it drives them insane and makes them do stupid things. Nothing like real life.

In addition to wanting to view full-frontal nudity on 435 members of the House of Representatives and 100 Senators, I am adding pundit Bill Kristol to my list.

    1. I have always wondered why there is no button to make it play more slowly. Y’know, for science.

      1. Because then your mind wouldn’t fill in the blanks for what isn’t happening. There are only so many frames and our minds imagine a lot more than there actually is.

    2. You didn’t read the books .. but that is how the books were. I thought it was great that main characters actually died. So rare in most writing and serial television to see an main character get axed.

        1. Except for Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead and its spin-offs and recently, I’m given to understand, the Marvel Comics universe where Spiderman, among others, was apparently killed off.

          1. *Infinity War spoiler*

Nah. He’s back. Part of the plot of the previous Avengers movie was that a villain named Thanos simply wiped half of all life out of existence, including half the Marvel super heroes. The downside is that AOC and most of the rest of the Democrat party probably thought “Hey, Thanos cut our CO2 emissions in half, so why is he the bad guy?”

Meanwhile, Bernie Sanders just came out and screamed that Disney should use the $1.3 billion they made off the new movie and spend it on raises for Disney employees. Why not just ban profits?

Yes, Bernie is taking on The Avengers and trying to rob Tony Stark. I think that’s dense enough to even convince progressive idiots that he’s an evil lunatic.

    3. I’d never experienced a series where the creators seemed so intent on pissing the audience off.

It is almost as if you saw the last episode! Although it was horrible for an entirely different set of reasons than the ones you mention.

In most fantasy books, there is an elaborate back story with a lot of death, betrayal, struggle, ect but it is only referenced and the story picks up with the hero and their journey. Game of Thrones starts with the back story and weaves in the Hero’s Journey in a way that you don’t quite know who the hero is. But in the end, it is still a typical fantasy story with a few twists.

It is too bad GRRM isn’t done with the books because when left to their own devices, the show’s writers really make a mess of things. We still don’t know how things will play out over the remaining episodes but if it continues on pace, its an epic mess to what would otherwise have been an outstanding series.

  3. More like a good series with some porn in it. And blood and gore and a fair amount of throat slitting, plus the gratuitous use of The C Word. There also seemed to be more “porn” in the first season or two – especially as one of the main characters owned a brothel, which he used to gain influence over others – and, while never going away entirely, seems much less now.

While a few of the sex scenes were “frank,” mostly they were just nude scenes with a lot of suggestion. The only thing I felt obliged to fast-forward past was the seemingly season-long torture of a guy named Theon – who survived and eventually became a hero.

All in all, I have enjoyed the series and hope that not too many favorite characters get killed off as the series winds down over the next month. If it is porn, at least it is not as infected by PC as some other series I could mention, Dragon Queen not withstanding.

    1. I remember Theon, good to hear he survived (for awhile anyway). I’m curious, was his torturer eventually killed off? Let me guess: Yes, but quickly and painlessly.

    2. The only thing I felt obliged to fast-forward past was the seemingly season-long torture of a guy named Theon – who survived and eventually became a hero.

Did he? I can’t think of a more horrible way to portray a hero, than how he was portrayed in the end. He ends as more of a lemming than a warrior hero.

  4. Oh, like she’s never watched midget orgy porn before. *rolls eyes*

They certainly did cut back, and I think in part it was a hook when they weren’t sure how popular the show would get. They also slowed down on killing important characters, perhaps because they’d have simply run out of them before they got anywhere near season eight.

There were some recent complaints about Arya Stark having a sex scene, and although she started the series when she was fourteen, she’s 22 now.

    1. The only complaints about Arya that I’ve seen were disappointment that it was a hetero scene.

  5. Martin once described his books as “gratuitous sex, gratuitous violence, gratuitous feasting, and gratuitous heraldry.” HBO really hasn’t had to add much other than good production values. There’s nothing PC about the books, which are essentially the Hundred Years War with dragons.

  6. Never did like George R.R. Martin when he started out getting published in Analog. Something nasty lurks in his work.

    1. Wouldn’t say the nasty “lurks,”exactly. Pretty much out there on the street corners wearing a sandwich board and screaming at the top of its lungs.
