We have a Vizio. I’ve never given it the wifi password. I just use it as a monitor.

Vizio’s one of the worst, I believe, for siphoning information about what you watch.
One of these days I’m going to set up my router to block the sites my Samsung phones home to.
I can think of 2 good reasons, as a consumer, for a TV to have a network connection:
– for another network attached device to act as a remote control. Perhaps with a few advanced options. For my own not so smart TV I’d like the option to rescan without forgetting the channels detected before.
– to use the built in tuner, using the video stream on another device.
