    1. Really?
“Chances are that nothing you’ve read here has changed your position on abortion or guns. If anything, you’re probably more convinced than ever that your position is correct.”
Well, mostly. But I thought this was interesting:
“Clinton sounded quite different. In response to a question from Chris Wallace about late-term abortion at the third presidential debate in 2016, she took a hard line and said, “I do not think the United States government should be stepping in and making those most personal of decisions.” ”
      Clinton is correct.
But she lying sack of shit, so it doesn’t matter if gives the correct answer. And she says it’s not government job to make these decisions- but she is no libertarian.
But I was impress she could manage to give the right answer- she is smarter than she appears to be {more of a reason not to have her be President}.
So I changed my mind about her.

It seems ethics classes are dumber than I thought they could be.
Apparently there is no A to get, so you should do just about anything get the A- assuming getting a A was vaguely important.
The incentive if not giving a A, is not to work as hard; which seems to be what is required. And apparently has resulted in a teacher who doesn’t gives As and seems the teacher not to want to give Fs, and want a student to decide who gets an F.
It seems that every student deserved an F for taking that class.
In terms switching the direction of train. It seems 5 people have better chance to escape from certain death than 1 person. But if I was driving the train, I think I prefer to run over one person rather than 5.
But that wasn’t the choice given.
It seems if 5 people are run over, there might more political will to stop people from being tied to train tracks. And of course the murderers are the people tying people to train track- and such people should be executed and it’s more likely to be executed if they murder five hapless people.

The main problem with abortion or gun rights is federal government involving itself in such matters. And I have not changed my mind about that.
But if one of the 50 states want screw with it, not certain that federal troops or other coercive methods should employed to protect the right to bear arms {but if supreme court wants to step in, that’s their mistake to make}. And abortion is not vaguely a federal matter- and any supreme meddling should be overturned.
Of course if The People in their foolish want pass an amendment about abortion, then Supreme Court could decide on matters regarding it.
Seeing how political Americans are, it’s not like they lack the will to pass anything they want to do. Or hard to see the public as being lazy, when they are spending billions of dollars on elections and tend to be quite excited about things which they think is important.

  1. In the aftermath of the 2016 election, I read widely—and somewhat unsatisfyingly—to try and understand the root causes of polarization. J.D. Vance’s Hillbilly Elegy moved me, and it’s impossible to read George Packer’s The Unwinding, which takes place largely in North Carolina after the Great Recession, without being unsettled by the coming apart of bedrock American institutions. But nothing I read fully explains the mistrust—daresay hatred—that has evolved between liberals and conservatives.

I think he is overthinking things and is looking in the wrong places for answers. At least he comes across as being open to finding answers.

And it’s what feels equally wrong about conservatives who claim to revere life, and yet can display such brazen cruelty to immigrants and prisoners.

Yup, looking in all the wrong places. If he knew what conservatives do on their own through their charities and institutions, then he couldn’t make the claim that they don’t care about people after they are born. Rather than looking out, he should try looking in and deconstructing his own belief system and then he might get red pilled into seeing how Democrats have turned into hate filled marxist revolutionaries. But they really haven’t changed so much as the mask has slipped letting the useful idiots get a peak at what the end game is.

Once he sees through the illusions that Democrats create for others, then he will be able to understand how other people think. But as long as he holds his current paradigm, he will be unable to find the enlightenment he seeks.

If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.

  2. “But nothing I read fully explains the mistrust—daresay hatred—that has evolved between liberals and conservatives.”

Fundamentally, it’s rabbits vs wolves. Liberals are r-selected, Conservatives are k-selected, and never the twain shall agree.

Liberals think the good times will go on forever while Conservatives can see society is collapsing. Liberals think they can undermine the institutions that made society work and it will continue to function. They think we’re heading into the Star Trek future where we all live in San Francisco and everyone just gets along, while the real California can’t even keep the power on.

And while Conservatives are trying to prepare for the bad times, Liberals are blaming Conservatives for the bad times and trying to prevent them from preparing.

  3. Two things:

    1. I am a species of hillbilly and have been to Boone, NC many times. It’s a fairly liberal college down (though nothing compared to Chapel Hill, of course).

    2. The author is not taking into account the difference between facing someone in the flesh, name known, and risking a punch in the nose, vs. mouthing off anonymously on line. That’s why doxxing is such a big deal.

  4. ” If he knew what conservatives do on their own through their charities and institutions, then he couldn’t make the claim that they don’t care about people after they are born. Rather than looking out, he should try looking in and deconstructing his own belief system and then he might get red pilled into seeing how Democrats have turned into hate filled marxist revolutionaries. ”

    This misses an established fact:

That Dems/Soccie/Marxists CREATE chaos and then present themselves as the solution. Yes they blame the chaos on Conservatives sometimes (e.g. soldiers returning form war will turn into hate-filled terrorists).

But not all the time. The essential point is that Lefties first create the problem.
