  1. I wonder whether your UK friends are British or more specifically English? You will be aware that the Scots are generally against Brexit, and that in recent days all three devolved Parliaments have voted against the Brexit bill.

    1. So, instead of being ruled by the UK, the Scots prefer to be ruled by unaccountable EU bureaucrats in Brussels? Let them go, if that’s what they want.

      1. Yes, exactly. For all the Braveheart talk, the SNP don’t want actual independence, they just want direct access to the EU trough to stuff their faces with other countries’ money.

    2. All of them receive lots of bribes^H^H^H^Hgrants from the EU. So it’s not much of a surprise.

Brexit is part of the growing revolt of producers against consumers, and Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are consumers. None of them could survive without a sugar daddy.

      1. And it looks like Irish “reunification” can be achieved by having Ulster sell out to the EU.

      2. I, for one, am willing to volunteer to be a sugar daddy for some Irish or Scottish lass if it will help in trade negotiations.

    3. Over a million of my fellow Scots voted to leave the EU. That’s actually more of us than voted SNP at the last Scottish Parliamentary election.

Yes, it’s true that Scots are generally more pro-EU than the rest of the country, but the nationalists’ strategy of parlaying that sentiment into support for seperatism is going down like a lead balloon, not least because a significant proportion of their own support (perhaps as much as a third) is anti-EU itself. A minister in the current Holyrood cabinet has been brave enough to admit to voting “Leave” (the SNP enforces notoriously strict party discipline, especially over this issue), and there are rumoured to be others.

    4. You may also be aware that a majority of Welsh ‘people’ voted to leave the EU in 2016, so the fact that Welsh ‘politicians’ have again voted against the Brexit bill represents yet another example of politicians ignoring the will of the people… and then they wonder why people loose faith in them!

  2. I think the Brits should commemorate Jan31 to celebrate their freedom from the corrupt and undemocratic EU. They might call it something like “Independence Day”.

      1. Too bad they couldn’t wait a month and make it official on the last day of February this year.

  3. I have to wonder if the Queen was anxiously awaiting the chance to give Royal Assent…hoping to be able to give it while she was still queen.

If Charles were king I’d have to wonder if he’d give assent.

The Queen – boy has she witnessed some history.

    1. If a monarch refuses royal assent to legislation, the repercussions can be brutal to the monarchy. The government (meaning the prime minister and Parliament) controls the purse strings.

Charles is 71 years old. He’s learned this constantly since his grandfather died.

      1. I wouldn’t put it past Charles to decline giving assent if he had the chance.

Have you listened to him over the last 20 years?

  4. I find it somewhat surprising that there is no mention of this on many news sources: Drudge, CNN, Google News, Fox News, ABC News, and NBC News. NBC New’s “World” tab only had a brief story on whether or not Big Ben will have some kind of special chime to commemorate the event.

    1. Well, there are much bigger stories in the US, such as the death of Mr. Peanut in a tragic vehicle accident.

      1. I think I heard about this. Wasn’t he killed in a hit and run by a white haired old guy driving an Orville Redenbachrr truck? They are calling it a drive by corn pop!

          1. Maybe I should stop falling asleep in front of the TV when it’s tuned to cable news…. That might help.

    2. Our media not doing a good job reporting on important events around the world isn’t new but it does seem to be worse than ever as they are consumed with TDS and Democrat activist propaganda.

      1. Yeah, you are right. One of the most difficult beliefs to change in my conservative friends is “FoxNews is a conservative alternative to the MSM.” While they are more willing to interview people representing both sides of the aisle than any other outlet, they don’t cover any stories that the MSM outlets won’t cover, nor will they present a strong angle against the other media’s coverages.
