Existential Hope

I was introduced to Allison a couple years ago, but only briefly. I really only got to know her a few days ago, at a Foresight event on lunar governance. I hadn’t realized that she was so interested in space.

Anyway, she is a brilliant and very charismatic young woman, as this video demonstrates.

  1. I am not aware of any particular threat in the future.
If there was a known threat, it seems human probably could
    avoid or deal with it.
I am aware some threats which are delusional.
We are living in an Ice Age and some people are worried about “global warming”. Quite delusional. Almost impressively delusional.
    Threat of over population?
We are at the highest population of human population and it’s the best time in human history.
Not to mention humans have been worried about over population since the beginning of history. And it hasn’t been a problem, yet.
It seems possible our current civilization could fail as other civilizations have appeared to have failed in the past.
Or said differently, political systems fail- or it seems there is continuum of failing political systems happening in decadal time scales. And probably one could worry if they ever become more stable.
Kind of like if fashions were to become constant.
But one could be quite disappointed in lack creativity of these changes, as it’s more of rehashing/recycling sort of thing.

Some say history doesn’t repeat, but I tend to think it sort of does.

Basically, I tend to think the human is very brutal predator, and not sure why people imagine it’s “endangered”. Or human vs space alien, I kind of sort of worry for the space aliens. Sure, humans have seemed to allow themselves to be trapped on this planet {for no apparent reason}and humans should be hapless victim against any kind of foe {from space}.But perhaps, it’s devious trap.
But then one could imagine this predator would kill everything on the planet- and I say, look at all the goofy cat videos.
Humans seem born, nature lovers/worshipers- it’s hardwired into them.
And they don’t even seem to want to exterminate the mosquitoes. There must some mysterious need to keep the mosquitoes.
When humans colonize Mars, are we going to bring mosquitoes to Mars?
Now, if cats can be pets to humans, can humans be pets to space aliens? And if humans are pets to space aliens, can humans keep their pets?
I tend to think socialists would kind of like to be pets to space aliens. And humans might quite unhappy if they could not bring all their pets, and house plants {and possibly mosquitoes or other vermin] with them.

    Ocean acidification. So dumb.
What else are the reasons for possible concern?
    Oh, I went here:

But it didn’t seem helpful in regard clues of what dangers in future.
But there was something about AI.
And AI seems to be something people are worried about.
But it seems most are worried about AI related to big corporations- which roughly translates into big corporation are going to hire less people. And probably similar to Space Aliens. Will the big corporation want human pets and can human bring their pets and other vermin with them. And if so, why aren’t socialists happy about that?

  2. People like to worry and our storytelling is in a dystopian phase that influences the rest of our culture. It is nice that some people don’t have a fatalistic belief about how horrible the future will be but its a little sad that their existence isn’t ordinary.
