  1. I’ve been reading some novels written and published in the 1918 – 1922 time frame lately. There are lots of things about the after effects of the War, but no mentions of the Spanish Flu or any other epidemic.

    One interesting note from “On the Gorilla Trail,” by Mary Hastings Bradley (yep, Tiptree’s much-reviled mom). She comments that before the War, India Ocean steamers ran on a reliable schedule, but afterwards, they showed up when they showed up. You just showed up at a port of call and waited until your ride showed up.
