  1. I can not even watch Fox News or any network/cable news. The sensualizing for dramatic effect to hook viewers bores me. It seems like 80% of the program is about getting us excited about 2% of useful information with remaining time spent for self advertisement.

Within a week of this latest fear mongering; I dropped my cable/satellite to the cheapest programming they have. Not sure why I didn’t just cancel it. I’ve kept it in the past for sports, but there is no such thing anymore. Whatever was close to good series won’t have new content for another year. The only positive is the potential death of reality shows. That leaves news and movies, and I own any movies I care to see. I cancelled nearly all streaming services (except Amazon Prime, because its free with the pre-paid delivery). I do use YouTube, because its the only home for new creative content and in-depth news.

    1. YouTube is great for niche programming and you can find a lot of channels that appeal to you directly. Like carving birds out of soap? There are probably several dozen channels devoted to it. Then you spin off into soap making, knives, rando tools, birdwatching, or whatever else.

  2. I quit watching all national news programming about 3 years ago. It was pretty much “all politics and opinion, all of the time”. Who needs that? Fox is just as bad as the other news networks. They have a lot of airtime to fill and doing actual journalism about what is happening in the world is difficult and expensive. It’s much easier to put on a bunch of talking heads to pontificate one way or the other on how everything in the world (good or bad, depending on the network) is due to Trump. The Left comes on with the Daily Outrage!, never mind that nothing has come from all of the other outrages for the past 4 years. Fox and conservative talk radio comes on to counter the Daily Outrage! Quite frankly, I have outrage fatigue, so I’ve turned off all of them. It’s quite refreshing, and I have no trouble getting all of the news that I need from a variety of sources around the world.

    1. I agree with talk radio as well. I do have a subscription to Rush, but mainly so I can listen to his first segment on days that seem interesting and when I want to listen to them. I do like various podcasts, mostly not about news, but I think of Rush as a podcast now (although a poor one due to the poor Android app).

I’m also done with the outrage. I still enjoy reading AoS, but even there, I can only get excited about flaming skulls if revelations were followed through. I appreciate solid principles (and pointing out those claiming “mah principles”), but I need results if I’m going to have outrage.

    2. Fox News Sunday and Special Report used to be top notch but Wallace has gone off the rails and so has Special Report. A lot of people want some straight news, there is a big market opportunity.

  3. We’re on Spectrum. Our cable box does something similar. Only it switches over to Spectrum News 1, a Greater L.A.-oriented “news” network that is pretty much “L.A. Times TV” carried on Chanel 1 of the Spectrum basic cable feed. The talking heads are all Times staffers, local broadcast station has-beens and moonlighters/has-beens from local PBS outlets.

The programming is, quite predictably, all politically correct nearly all the time.

The only things watchable I’ve ever found on this channel are three one-hour roundtables it does every Oscar season of nominated actors, actresses and directors, respectively. One would imagine that to be a slough of political correctness and Trump-bashing too, but it seems the one subject show people find even more riveting that goofball left-wing virtue-signalling is talking about themselves and their art. Who knew?

Still, when these folks doff their default roles as SJWs, some of them can be interesting and tell a good yarn.

    1. One other thing I’ve found annoying is that occasionally, when I’m attempting to fast forward or back up, it will instead jump to a completely different channel. Fortunately, it seems to have a recording buffer on the previous channel for a sufficient period of time that I can return to it without losing anything.

  4. It’s not “what” you are watching as what you “should” be watching, as recommended by your cable provider. Consuming disapproved content will cause your bill to go up, so you see they are actually just trying to save you money. Watch the Soma channel and be happy.
