No one suggests that people should be able to spew indisputably vile speech (e.g., asserting that blacks or Mexicans are inherently criminal, that women’s sole purpose is to serve men as sex slaves or breeders, that mass terror is fine as a path to utopia, or that true sexual liberation should include adult-child sex) without becoming social and professional pariahs.
Nothing on that list is truly indisputable With ample Orwellian social and political dysfunction anything is possible.
Here, we should consider what’s being approved as well as what’s being canceled. Obviously, ridiculous punishments for minor or even imaginary transgressions is one of those approved things. Punishing people for deviance from orthodoxy is the necessary power to impose ideas and systems that would never see the light of day in a rational and open society.
