  1. A society matron was walking down Park Avenue past a construction site, but she turned around to talk to the site supervisor about the foul language used by the workers.

So he calls his guys into the trailer and tells them, “Look, I know you guys are hard at work, but we are on a public street and I got a complaint about some of the swearing going on. What gives?”

“It was like this, boss. I was holding the wood and Pat was operating the saw. Pat’s hold on the saw slipped, and it took off the fleshy end of my little finger. So I told him,

‘Heavens-to-Betsy Pat. I came close to losing a digit from my dexterous hand. Could you, at some future date, endeavor to exercise more care in the operation of the saw?'”

  2. I listened to part of it, but it was just too painful. President Trump dominated it, but Biden was not as doddering as I had expected.

The coverage today talked mostly about “undecided voters.” That’s BS. There aren’t any as of this point.

  3. Want to have fun, find a copy of the transcript, then do keyword searches on a topic that matters to you. Then search on progressive topics.

  4. Trump came off as a bit of a jerk, which isn’t new, and he didn’t have an articulate defense of his successful policies, which he should have been able to ramble off with ease.

Biden had talking points memorized but came off as shallow. Biden couldn’t go into any detail beyond some superficial talking points. Biden used his usual debate tactics of the stupid grin and insults. This made him also look like a bit of a jerk but the back and forth made him look weak, physically and mentally.

Wallace was terrible. He framed questions from a Democrat pov. Why would Trump need another big government program to replace Obamacare? Why were the multiracial Proud Boys lumped in with white supremacists? Why was it assumed that climate change was all man made and the nature played no role? Would there really be no climatic variation or forest fires if the Green New Deal was implemented? Wallace never challenged Biden like he did Trump. It was ultimately Trump’s responsibility to challenge Biden and that was one big reason for the interruptions.

Trump had the opportunity to do a lot better but didn’t. Biden did as good as he could. This was Biden at his best. No one thinks Biden could do better but everyone knows Trump could have.

    1. “Trump had the opportunity to do a lot better but didn’t. Biden did as good as he could.”

Because Trump as he alluded to was basically debating two people; weak Biden and Chris Wallace. Consider how the question of Trump supposedly not condemning white supremacy groups was handled. Trump said give me a name; I will condemn them; Biden on the other hand refused to condemn Antifa. Insisting that they (Antifa) was an “idea” not an organization!? The group directly or indirectly responsible for allot of the recent violence in our cities? Days earlier Trump added both Antifa and wait for it the KKK to the list of domestic terrorist organizations. A fact that Chris Wallace ignored and Trump should have brought up. After all the KKK would probably be the name historically most people would think of as being synonymous with white supremacy. As opposed to the debate mentioned “Proud Boys” which probably most people had never heard of before last night.

      1. I hope a lot of people googled images of the multi-ethnic Proud Boys.

Trump could have done a much better job rebutting both Biden and Wallace. He lacked focus and went off on tangents when he needed an elevator pitch style of response. It doesn’t have to be something memorized, he should be able to speak contemporaneously about these issues. Biden had scripted answers for everything, and even looked like he was reading off notes, surely Trump could have anticipated the questions enough to be more prepared.

When Biden was dodging things like condemning Antifa or whether or not Democrats will pack SCOTUS or even when he claimed he was the Democrat party, Trump missed opportunities to give a focused attack.

    2. Or the way (Wallace) soft-balled Biden’s unwillingness to say rather he supported stacking the courts; like that is some minor point not worthy of serious discussion. Trump nailed him on that most of the main stream media of course largely downplayed that.

      1. Our media are horrible, which is why we saw Wallace present the lie that Trump said white supremacists were fine people and why the media is saying today that Progressive Marxist Critical Race Theory is just sensitivity training.

  5. In a debate, you need to overwhelm your opponent. Trump did. If Wallace hadn’t run interference, even the progs would have been laughing by the end.

    1. Trump did but he also needs to do a better job defending his record and saying what he will do in a second term. A lot of people were turned off by how badgering he was. He should strike a balance. I think if he gave more focused answers after interrupting, people would have responded better.

I don’t think there was a clear winner but when the Democrats come out the next day saying they need to change the rules or cancel the remaining debates, it shows they don’t think they won and that Biden isn’t up to the challenge.

  6. Chris Wallace was horrible. Brett Baier would never have handled it that way.

I think the problem was that Chris Wallace instead of trying to moderate a debate between two debaters, he was trying to instead conduct a hard-hitting interview of the candidates, hoping to catch Trump in a gotcha moment. The candidates weren’t showing up for a Chris Wallace interview, nor was the audience tuning in for that.

    1. “I baked a cake in my debate preparation and (President) Trump stepped in it.”

Since when is the debate about the moderator?

  7. the whole thing was silly – certainly not Lincoln-Douglas.

I agree with Wodun that Trump could have done better. He has excellent responses such as:

The increase of wages by 10k in 3 years vs the previous 16

If he had an array of responses like that to hand, and used them, he would have dominated.

He did try that, but he has this habit of not finishing his phrases but hopped from one item to the next before completing the first.

All the facts and events are on his side and he should use that.

Not that I mind him going after Wallace or Biden – that’s pure Trump too and lots of voters like that.

  8. Gregg, did you watch the Lincoln-Douglas debate? Hostility to the right is nothing new with the press, and that’s the only version I have access to…

    1. “Gregg, did you watch the Lincoln-Douglas debate? ”

Yeah they had it on C-Span. Camera lighting wasn’t great though as the flaming torches don’t really put out a lot of light.

      I read them

        1. Was it television or the 3 LP set? C’mon man, you know, next to the Newhart comedy records!

  9. To all of you black-pilled Eye-yore’s, George Will is weighing in with “For the sake of the country, cancel the remaining debates.”

I think that tells you everything you need to know.

  10. My favorite bit:
Q to Biden: Will you pack the SCOTUS?
A: Blaa blaa something something blaa blaaa
    Trump: Answer the question!
    Biden: Will you shut up?!!

    1. To all the people wringing their hands about the debate, there is a certain element of, “Gentleman! You can’t fight in here. This is the War Room!’

  11. “But the final straw, was when we read that President Trump was suffering from a similar aliment and we were afraid of falling into a Dementia Gap!”

“But that’s ridiculous. I’ve never felt better in my life!”

“Our source was the NY Times”.
