  1. This really isn’t too uncommon in politics but expect it to get worse with the Marxification of the Democrat party. Before we know it, people with no experience, but with the proper party credentials, will be placed in control over things that matter, like power plants, oil refineries, and major corporations/banks.

  2. I suspect launch licensing will be well below Mayor Pete’s field of view for some time – if we are fortunate, for the entirety of his tenure. He’s one of those all-ambition types and, like Obama before him, won’t care to do much of the actual job he holds at any given point. He certainly seems not to have exerted himself overly while Mayor of South Bend.

There is a bit of brewing discontent from civil aviation about disruptions to airliner traffic now that space launches are a lot more frequent than they’ve been in a long time. But that isn’t likely to be more than a vague itch type of issue until Elon wants to start launching and landing Starships multiple times per week. By then, he may well have finessed the whole airspace issue by moving the launch and landing ops well offshore.

The Commerce Dept., which is in the process of taking over space traffic management from USAF/USSF, is perhaps a more consequential consideration for SpaceX. Biden has named no one to that Secretaryship yet, but the rumored leading candidate is another failed Presidential nomination-seeker, Andrew Yang. Yang seems to have a reputation as a bit of a policy wonk so he might actually take an interest in what the Commerce Dept. does. Whether that will be good or ill anent private sector spacefaring I have no real clue at the moment.

    1. I could imagine far worse in that slot than Yang. So we might actually get lucky if he is the nominee.

      1. Looking like whoever runs Peking Joe is making sure all of the occupants of this past year’s Presidential Clown Car get tainted by being a part of the coming fiasco.

      2. Oh yeah, big time. With virtually no effort I can easily think of a dozen or more Swamp Things who would be likely to do far more damage than Yang at Commerce. As it now looks all but inevitable that there will be a Biden administration, I hope the senile old goat picks Yang for the job.

Yang, by the way, is sort of a poster child for why I think a Trump-led, or even just Trump-endorsed, new party effort would have a real shot at peeling off the Asian vote from the present Democratic Coalition. There are certainly Asians who are genuine leftists, but most, I think, are just “paying protection” to the Dems to avoid even worse depredations were they to oppose them. Asians understand very well that Republicans won’t help them – Republicans won’t even help themselves. They also understand their inferior position in the intersectionality pecking order. They have merely “arranged” themselves as the Italians say.

I hope we get an opportunity soon to see just how fragile the Dem Party becomes in the face of a new party that, unlike the Republicans, is willing to duel the Dems with cleavers in a dark cellar instead of chickening out as is SOP with Republicans.

  3. QPJ has already compared Mayor Pete favorably to his son Beau. And when it comes to transportation, Mayor Pete can match Hunter vis-a-vis gas and oil, credential by credential.

  4. When “diversity” is a driving factor in selecting a nominee, actual knowledge of the domain takes a back seat. Since Buttigieg was probably chosen primarily because he’s gay, wouldn’t it have been possible to find a gay person with actual transportation experience? There have to be such people in the population.
