  1. As I said on Twitter, I really wish that deep-space nuclear propulsion would become the primary mission of Marshall Space Flight Center. Because (1) they’d do a good job, (2) they can’t ride SLS much longer, and (3) I don’t want Elon to have nukes.

    1. Even if we’re talking nuclear rocket motors or nuclear power reactors rather than nuclear weapons, I’d still a lot sooner entrust them to Elon Musk than to Joe Biden or anyone who works for him.

    2. I doubt Elon’s terribly interested in nuclear propulsion at this stage. The two things he cares about-Mars and SpaceX’s launch business-work just fine with reusable chemical rockets. But yes-I’d be A-ok with NASA if it ditched the Space Pork System and used the money to develop a useful nuclear engine.

  2. Why should Elon not have nukes? I don’t get the impression that Elon is evil, unlike others I could name.

    1. Well Bezos is going to have lots of nukes to power his interplanetary shipping system. The reactor shielding will of course be inadequate, but shielding is heavy and costs money, and heck, the crew are just a bunch of Amazon delivery employees, so like he needs to care.

      1. Someone told me that whereas Dr. Zarkov’s (is one of those Ed.D. insisting on being called “Doctor”?) spaceship is powered by coal, Ming’s spaceship is powered by his minions shoveling radium into its furnace. Ming the Merciless, apparently, had little regard for the safety of people working for him?

Anyone confirm this, or was my source offering off-canon fan fiction?

Jeff the Merciless? At least there are outwardly-appearing good-looking women involved in this tale

        1. From a quick search, it looks like the radium furnaces provided the power to hold up the sky city of the hawkmen (link).
