  1. Even if the “For the People Act were to Pass” (hope it doesn’t) it might not work out the way the Dems think. They (the Dems) basically caught the Republicans with their pants down. They didn’t perceive the ramifications of allowing the mass mail in ballots caused by the Covid-19 restrictions, paid the price for it. If said Act passed the Republicans would simply take a leaf from Stacey Abrams playbook and have their own version of ballot stuffing all over the United States. Even if attempts to do away with the electoral college (by mandating state electors have to follow the national popular vote), even that might not work out the way dems think. Imagine there are many people in Calif. & NY states who sit out votes thinking their vote won’t count. They might realize differently if we went to national popular vote in presidential elections.

    1. It’s up to the states to determine how they choose the electors. Article II, Section 1:

“Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector.”

I know of no legal basis for the federal government to have the authority to dictate to states how they must choose electors. Not that being unconstitutional has stopped them before, but I just don’t see that having any chance of being allowed to stand.

      1. “I know of no legal basis for the federal government to have the authority to dictate to states how they must choose electors.”

There already is a movement of States passing laws mandating that their electors would be required to vote according to the National popular vote. To be implemented once a majority of state legislatures do the same. What if the Federal government under the proposed for the people act simply said that electors (chosen any way the States decide) be required under federal law to vote according to National popular vote? They would likely defend its Constitutionality by sighting the 15th Amendment:

“Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.

Section 2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation”

Basically the same one they are using to justify the “For the People Act”.

        1. They would argue that not having the electors vote by the national popular vote is effectively “diluting” minority vote effectively “abridging” it. Same argument they are using to justify overriding the state legislatures by requiring mass mail-in ballots sent to voters mandatorily registered and/or election day registration etc.

      2. Yeah, but… All that text has to do with APPOINTING an Elector, nothing about telling them how to vote. I think the definition is in the title: Elector; one who elects. It is his choice how to vote, else the office is meaningless. Yes, that means Republican electors get to vote for the Democrat and vice-versa, even if I feel they have a moral obligation to the party that brung’em – because sometimes facts suddenly become clear that were not before.

    2. ” Even if attempts to do away with the electoral college (by mandating state electors have to follow the national popular vote),”

If faithless elector laws are unenforcable, such NPV “mandates” must also be.

  2. Now that you mention it, I think the Democrats may think so too, and be starting to act to try to stop it. Lately I’ve seen a number of people commenting over at Instapundit baldly and without any documentation claiming Trump’s support for Covid vaccines is alienating Republican voters, and he’s done because of this. It’s always sounded like classic Mobying to me. None of the Republicans I’ve talked to lately who aren’t vaxxed are anti-vax as such, they just don’t want to take it themselves. None of them would abandon him over this. It’s not as if he wasn’t talking it up from day one; it’s a known thing.

    1. There is a distinct difference between Trump advising people that they should be vaccinated and the Blue State diktat that you will be vaccinated.

  3. Well for instance the dems think they have a semi-permanent lock on the Hispanic vote for the foreseeable future. That might not turn out to be true if say SCOTUS repeals or drastically curtails Roe V Wade. The Dems would be rapid in their insistence such a decision can’t stand; Schumer would again be making threats against the court. Many Hispanics especially first-generation ones are more likely to be traditional Catholics who likely don’t think much of abortion. To say nothing of non-hispanic pro-life televangelist type whites who feel the same; the ones who likely set out many elections because they felt betrayed on the issue of abortion by both parties especially the Republicans.

  4. “Ted Cruz Says Republicans Will Likely Impeach Biden Over Border Policy If They Win House Majority”

“If we take the house, which I said is overwhelmingly likely, then I think we will see serious investigations of the Biden administration,” he added.

“I do think there’s a chance of that,” Cruz said in reference to a Republican House impeaching President Biden. “Whether it’s justified or not, the democrats weaponized impeachment. They used it for partisan purposes to go after Trump because they disagreed with him. One of the real disadvantages of doing that is the more you weaponize it and turn it into a partisan caudal, you know what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.”

Cruz argued that since the Democrats violated the rules of impeachment, Republicans will retaliate. “I think there will be enormous pressure on a republican house to begin impeachment proceedings. I think there are potentially multiple grounds to consider for impeachment. Probably the most compelling is the utter lawlessness is President Biden to enforce the boarder. His decision to just deify immigration laws,” Cruz said. “That’s probably the strongest grounds right now for impeachment but there may be others.”

    1. You could add…gross incompetence in the execution of his duties in office. Not only what Cruz cites (the border) but what about the debacle of the withdrawal from Afghanistan?
