  1. “Lawmakers should investigate whether the end of The Late Show was part of, as Colbert called Paramount’s payout to Trump over a frivolous 60 Minutes lawsuit, “a big fat bribe.”
Comments like this tainted this essay, though the points raised on the Industry are good.
Not a mention of the massive millions “The Late Show”loses each year

    1. I didn’t have to read more than his labored reference to the dominance of Joe Rogan’s podcast, which he described while carefully avoiding mention of Rogan’s name, and his snarky observation of the size of the Gutfeld! audience (double that of Colber’s, though it may consist of people who fell asleep during Laura Ingraham’s show – which doesn’t precede Gutfeld!) to know what a leftist hack he is. As such, he completely missed the reason why mainstream late night is bombing. Half of the country doesn’t consider preachy screeds directly calling them white supremacist racists an entertaining monologue. So Colbert’s show, which costs $100 million a year to put on, and loses $40 to $50 million due to lack of advertising revenue, didn’t fail for economic reasons, but for Orange Man Bad reasons. Now, I’ve known that broadcast TV as I knew it my whole life was dead for a very long time. But guess what. There’s a streaming channel that contradicts one of this guy’s assertions: The Johnny Carson Channel, which broadcasts reruns of Carson’s shows. They’re still immensely entertaining. If late night went back to being entertaining, it might survive longer. But as long as it is just a Democrat propaganda tool, it will never make any money, and will die a natural business death.

    2. Perhaps that reported $40 million a year CBS was losing on that show should be considered an in kind contribution to the DNC. How else would a business continue to suffer that kind of loss? Why would a show like that cost $100 million to produce in the first place?

  2. So nary a peep from anyone about the revelations from the Tulsi Gabbard press conference? No comments about the information drop that the Obama administration (orchestrated by Obama personally) basically created the Russian collusion hoax mostly out of whole cloth in an attempt to either shift the election Hillary Clinton’s way or failing that crippled the Trump administration. Also that Hillary Clinton herself is/was apparently a mental and physical basket case ill-suited for the White House we certainly dodged a bullet there.

    1. It is nice to know more details but this has been obvious since the beginning.

Obama and co spied on Trump for a year and knew he was innocent of Russian Collusion when they engineered the Special Counsel, which was a two year effort to remove him from office and throw the midterms to the opposition while knowing he was innocent, because they spied on him.

None of this happens without Obama and there were statements early on like (paraphrasing) “Obama told us to do everything by the book.” This was a major tell that it was not “by the book” lol. I don’t remember who said that maybe Susan Rice in an email to herself.

The media can’t cover it though because they were knowing and willing participants in the series of rolling coups.

      1. The Maxwell woman’s going to testify in front of Congress bill and Hillary Clinton understand that are either being subpoena to testify or ask to come in to testify hopefully under oath various members of Obama’s administration are likely going to be deposed as well this is not business as usual do I think obama himself personally would go to jail probably not too many layers of protection including obviously presidential immunity. Senior obama administration officials beside obama have no such protection sooner or later some of them will be squeezed and they’ll flip on the other ones at the very least it will damage the Democratic Party’s legacy and Obama’s in particular for years if not decades

        1. Don’t get your hopes up. This will either be the parade of the 5th should there be documentation, otherwise the boldest display of forgetfulness in history…

          1. “Don’t get your hopes up.”

Depends on how much documentation they have. If some of the lower echelon people are effectively nailed by the evidence the Tulsi Gabbard released they might have no choice to accept a plea deal in exchange for testimony against the higher ups. Looking at a probable long time in jail has loosened many a tongue in the past. Think Clapper and Brennan could be looking at jail time; Obama is likely protected by presidential Immunity. But if he (Obama) was deposed under oath don’t believe he couldn’t plead the 5th I assume because of said immunity. He could then be indicted for perjury if he lied under oath; including too much “forgetfulness”. If Obama went to trial (admittedly very unlikely) it would presumably be in DC; with a very Obama friendly jury pool. Not likely a conviction there no matter what the evidence. But severe damage to the dems/and Obama’s reputation with the public with what will hopefully come out. To say nothing of the disclosure about Hillary Clinton’s psycho-emotional/physical issues deliberately hidden by the democratic leadership from the public. Not criminal per see but severely unethical.

          2. I’ve been saying this for a while, considering how hard it would be to get a conviction, especially on Obama, due to the limited window of time for a case to work its way through court before the next election, Trump should pardon Obama, Hillary, and maybe a few others. Hang those pardons around their necks for all of history.

Prosecute who they can, pardon the rest. Make a few examples so the career federal workers know there are two tiers of justice and they will be less likely to “just follow orders” in the future.

        2. May it be so but my favorite phrase lately is, “Moderate your expectations.”

There are a lot of things that should happen and some things I want to happen, I’m not counting on any of them happening, so I will be happy if they do and status quo if they don’t.

The equivalent of fidgeting in your seat after a poker flop.

  3. Colbert is no different from those 1980s televangelists who owned UHF channel 46 in some podunk Midwestern town in order to broadcast their sermons in between shows from the likes of Benny Hinn and Jerry Falwell. They are preaching to the converted, not trying to entertain a large audience.

    1. I wonder what will replace Colbert in that slot? Carson re-runs?
Funny if that took a close 2nd to Gutfeld! in the ratings.

    1. Yes. You can also get the SAC Alert warble off one of those USAF informational films off YouTube. I want to install it as my next iPhone ringtone. Before they went to the squelch breaking multi-tone they use today.

  4. This guy is about ten years late to the party. Colbert isn’t some inflection point and if he was fired because of Trump, how do you explain the rest of the network? No one cares about Colbert. That is why he is getting cancelled.

Comedy is popular, really popular. Colbert not making enough money is like a pot shop closing down because they can’t sell pot.

I pretty much just watch youtube (with an adblocker) and listen to podcasts with an occasional movie thrown in. But last time I watched xfinity, their on demand was horrible. You couldn’t just watch shows from the service you paid for and everything was mixed together like Amazon video, always wanting you to download some other app. No thanks.

What makes youtube and other streaming options compelling is that the control lies with the audience and services that try and control the audience will suffer.

    1. That Liz Warren is furious about the cancellation of this show tells you more about the Senator from Massachesetts than it does about Mr. Colbert.

    2. Comedy is popular, really popular. Colbert not making enough money is like a pot shop closing down because they can’t sell pot.

Or to extend your scenario, Colbert comedy is the equivalent to THC & CBD free pot….

  5. Completely doctoring an interview segment to recast a political candidate’s answer into something coherent is hardly a trivial matter.

The biggest win in the Trump lawsuit was not the payout but the requirement that CBS publish the written transcripts from now on.

  6. Ahhh television. That particular form of entertainment did not last beyond the year 2040. -Data

FWIW. TNG revised cannon. Describing an Earth that struggled post WWIII when TOS made it abundantly clear Earth avoided that scenario… In fact Cochrane’s first warp drive spacecraft used a discarded Titan II ICBM as its launcher. They should’ve stuck to the TOS history and not relied on Vulcan to pull our fat from the fire. Completely illogical.

    1. And they completely ignore McCoy’s comment to Spock, “no wonder you were conquered”, in the episode “Conscience of the King” where he implies that Vulcan was conquered by Earth.
