For the Russians, that is true. On the Ukraine side, there is a glaring difference. Ukrainians fight. In Afghanistan, everything folded the moment the US left. Without US soldiers on the ground, the government evaporated instantly.
In Ukraine, “in the Ukraine” means sending military gear and some advisors. There’s no serious US military presence in Ukraine.

Well US also stabbed the Afghans in the back with the side deal with the Taliban and the secret annexes . And the trained afghan soldiers didn’t trust the political leaders and the political leaders didn’t trust their American trained officer core.Plus the soldiers recruited have little difference in life no matter which side win other than they wouldn’t have to go home and see their daughters dancing to weird music and instead use them to trade for a goat like they could before the US came. So in the end it was Afghan soldiers that didn’t have to outrun the lion they just had to outrun the US and go back home.
