  1. I can relate to this to a degree. It seems to help explain why I was never at a company other than my own for more than a couple of years. Not that I was always right. Questioning the status quo is often unpopular. Seems similar to this error corrector type, except my accuracy was well under 100%.

  2. Maybe the institutional idiots are “right”, and institutions always have a relatively short lifetime. So, the pack of idiots, just can’t survive very long, but do live a bit longer by getting rid of error correctors.

  3. This is a sincerely brilliant summary. Anyone who has worked in “consulting” (scare quotes very much intended) knows it is spot-on.

  4. Look, Check, Fix,Thank
I remember something very similar in NCO training, not that it was received well when I returned to the company.

  5. There are never shortages of people who find problems, real or imagined.

The way to deal with that is to make the case to your superior and offer a solution. Then, when the boss makes a decision, do your best to make it successful regardless of whether or not they took your advice.

When acting under your own authority, just solve the problem or get help solving it. But otherwise, do as above. You will be more respected for being honest and a team player.

With a problem that is too severe for you to stomach that will go uncorrected, then you need to find a new job.

You also have to balance two competing notions, wanting to do the best you can and its not a Picasso.
