Another Decline To Hide

The president continues to fall in the polls (not a permalink):

Fifty-three percent (53%) of voters worry that the federal government will do too much when it comes to reacting to the nation’s financial problems. That’s up seven points since President Obama took office.

…Overall, 45% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President’s performance. That matches the lowest level of total approval yet measured for this president. Eighty-one percent (81%) of Democrats approve as do 33% of unaffiliated voters. Eighty-three percent (83%) of Republicans disapprove.

Among all voters, 54% now disapprove.

Support for the health care plan proposed by the President and Congressional Democrats has fallen to a new low of 38%. Sixty percent (60%) of voters believe passage of the bill will lead to higher health care costs.

The marks are catching on.

[Evening update]

Hide the decline. I think that this is just the beginning of the thermonuclear-level mockery that is about to descend on these power-hungry charlatans.

  1. Looking through the history, there actually was a period in September and early October when Obama seemed to be recovering slightly from the worst of his midsummer missteps (at least among the crowd that either strongly approves or strongly disapproves. That has since gone back to the worst of the midsummer numbers.

I can’t help but wonder if this has to do with the Democrats’ current approach to health care “reform”. A HuffPo op ed by Chris Weigant claims that the Democrats are “all in” on health care reform, that they are gambling everything on putting this legislation in place, say by year’s end.

What puzzles me is how this is supposed to help them next year. Even if you ignore or postpone most of the bad news, you still end up with the situation that health care is not the only issue that voters care about. Obama really hasn’t resolved Iraq or Afghanistan (aside from the latter growing a bit worse). There, he’s still coasting on the success from the last couple of years of the Bush administration. He hasn’t made the US government more open. And for the past ten or so months, Congress and he have been implementing a lot of policies that undermine US businesses and the economy.

I’m sure that was a factor, but I think that the recent disastrous trip to Asia and the insane decision to try KSM in civilian court in New York played a role as well. Not to mention the continuing Afghanistan dithering. It’s surprising that the numbers aren’t lower, actually.

  3. I want to run for congress in one of those new districts in the 56th or 57th state. You know, the ones with teh “saved jobs”.

  4. Bill, I’ve been searching high and low all across Georgia to find our 86th District. I keep coming up about 73 districts short in my count but as they say at CRU “the data must be wrong.”

  5. Amazing how climate data and job data have so much in common. It couldn’t be the people involved, could it?

  6. Global warming is about CLIMATE not TEMPERATURE people. The temperature is irrelevant. Gees, did any of you actually take science classes in high school?
