  1. I heard Rush Limbaugh say on the radio today (paraphrasing), “It’s as if a nationwide Tea Party rally spontaneously sprung up.”

I’m off to my local restaurant in a few minutes. I waited until 7:00 pm EDT so I’ll hopefully miss the bulk of the dinner crowd. I’ll let you know how it goes.

    1. Mission accomplished. I arrived at 7:20 and the line was out the door and snaking around the front of the building. The line of cars for the drive-thru was backed up on the road as far as I could see. There was a local TV news van in the parking lot, but I didn’t see any announcers or cameramen. They had probably done a spot for the evening news and were already finished.

I got into the building at 7:50 and was served around 8:05-8:10. I finished my meal at 8:30. Surprisingly there were always enough seats as the rate of people leaving roughly matched the rate of people arriving. As I left the end of the line was finally inside the building.

The employees were working their butts off but were good-natured about it. I haven’t lines and a crowd like that since my last Dead concert.

I was seriously thinking of wearing my Gadsden t-shirt but decided not to. I reasoned that it was not a political rally but just a show of support for a private business by ordinary people. My instincts proved correct. I didn’t see any political messages, just an occasional American flag on a t-shirt.

      1. I don’t know, Rickl, I think this thing started out as a political event, by virtue of officials acting under color of authority trying to push a private citizen around, using his religious beliefs as a pretext. I’m thinking that the real story goes something like that Chicago wardheeler couldn’t get Dan Cathy to cough up some “service fees”, or the like.

Anyhow, good for you for showing up. I won’t be able to get to a Chick-Fil-A until Friday, but I’ll buy something then.

  2. About 6:pm here, temp 110-ish and our local Chik-Fil-A was still packed, traffic backed up out onto the main road a hundred yards or so… Will stop in tmo, I’m hungry.

  3. I was going to hit the one near my pharmacy, but at 11:15, the place was already packed to the rafters. It’s always busy at that unit, but today was epic for them I’m betting.

  4. I hate KFC-style chicken, so I have never been to a Chick Fil A before tonight. That’s actually good food – not what I expected at all! So now we are catering our next party with them…

They’re certainly welcome in my part of Chicago!

  5. I’ll copy the post I left at the original Chik-fil-A thread. (Had trouble leaving comments; running CCleaner seems to have fixed things.)

Would-be boycotters should use “The Scarlet Letter” as a guide. The fictional Puritans’ intolerance had its limits. They wouldn’t buy Hester’s needlework for bridal gowns (for obvious reasons), but they saw no problem with her handiwork adorning christening gowns, shrouds, or even their magistrates’ official garb.

(For anyone so interested, there’s a more detailed post on this perspective at my blog, complete with “Prisoner” references. It takes The Village to raze a dissident.)

One way we can put this into practice is to buy anything from the Chicoms except for American flags and anything used in Fourth of July celebrations. (Don’t the Taiwanese make fireworks?)

If SSM fanatics followed this rule of thumb, they’d reject Chik-fil-A as a site for SSM receptions and meetings for organizations that promote SSM – or any of the other institutions Dan Cathy insulted (promiscuity, serial marriage) – but ONLY in those instances.

  6. Obama is toast. This November a lawn ornament would beat him. We just happen to have one. But kidding aside, Mitt has given some really good speeches lately.
