ObamaCare

Go ahead, Democrats — embrace it:

Actually, the GOP does have a plan about Obamacare and its replacement. We’re going to rip this Democratic party-spawned monstrosity out by the roots, burn it, urinate on the ashes, and then try a series of market-based reforms that will increase competition (health savings accounts, inter-state insurance markets) and foster innovation (meaningful tort reform). Just because the Democrats keep lying by saying that there’s no alternative to their political equivalent to a midlife crisis** doesn’t mean that there actually isn’t one.

…The problem with Obamacare is not that it is being badly presented; the problem is that there is a limit to how well you can present a law that is this bad. It’s like trying to put a positive spin on having your leg bitten off by a shark: sure, yes, in the long run you’re going to see a 50% saving on socks, but that’s not exactly comforting news while you’re watching the water around you go pink…

And Dr. K. explains that the train wreck cometh. I’d love to see everyone responsible for this on the unemployment line. Well, actually, garbed in hot black hydrocarbons and and bird adornments.

  1. Before Obamacare, there were in excess of thirty small (1-10 doctor) oncology outpatient clinics in the greater Seattle area. I’m only personally conversant with five – but they’ve all been assimilated by one of the major hospitals. I hear all of the rest have also been completely subsumed.

If you like your monopoly, you can keep your monopoly. And no, the fact that the monopoly is “non-profit” doesn’t stop it from (a) exerting every irritating aspect of a monopoly, or (b) from paying their execs mind-blowing salaries. $5 million is what I hear for this one. And that’s before we discuss the fact that the “non-profit” actually pays a variable-rate lease to a for-profit – where the lease is adjusted after-the-fact based on revenue.

  2. The problem with this hydra is even if you completely get rid of ObamaCare… The government has grown in so many ways and continues to grow. There’s not enough tea to hold back this tide. Obama didn’t start it. He just likes it. That’s what’s in his smile.

  3. One reform I don’t see mentioned: put the health insurance you buy on equal tax footing with the insurance your employer buys for you.

  4. Factoid 1- Evidently, the Obamacare paperwork includes a slot that registers a filer to vote.

Factoid 2- All the Democrat members of the “Gang of 8” amnesty-bill-creation team want amnestied illegals to automatically have access to Obamacare.

Factoid 3- The same crew says that there is no need for voter-ID laws, because there isn’t any such thing as voter fraud.

Of course, this is all just pure coincidence: why, no Democrat would ever EVER be so unpatriotic as to engineer a voting majority composed of illegal immigrants so they no longer have to pass electoral review by American citizens….

  5. It’s how the Labor party did it in England. Relax the immigration standards, vastly accelerate the immigration rate, make absolutely sure that every little immigrant gets onto the dole and the NHS as soon as their feet hit their ‘new native soil’, then grant them the vote. There’s no way they’ll do anything other than voting for increased dole benefits or against anyone that their political ‘handlers’ tell them is bigoted against them.
    Sound at all familiar?

  6. Speaking of the unemployment line, a good friend who’s been a test & support manager for a medical equipment company for a long time just got laid off because the market for such equipment has collapsed, because doctors/clinics/hospitals have stopped making capital purchases to save funds for when ObamaCare hits… He tells me that the company itself may not survive.
