The Benghazi Talking Points

The time line of the lies.

Within hours of the initial attack on the U.S. facility, the State Department Operations Center sent out two alerts. The first, at 4:05 p.m. (all times are Eastern Standard Time), indicated that the compound was under attack; the second, at 6:08 p.m., indicated that Ansar al Sharia, an al Qaeda-linked terrorist group operating in Libya, had claimed credit for the attack. According to the House report, these alerts were circulated widely inside the government, including at the highest levels. The fighting in Benghazi continued for another several hours, so top Obama administration officials were told even as the fighting was taking place that U.S. diplomats and intelligence operatives were likely being attacked by al Qaeda-affiliated terrorists. A cable sent the following day, September 12, by the CIA station chief in Libya, reported that eyewitnesses confirmed the participation of Islamic militants and made clear that U.S. facilities in Benghazi had come under terrorist attack. It was this fact, along with several others, that top Obama officials would work so hard to obscure.

And with the help of a supportive/indifferent media, they succeeded. Until now.

  1. Thanks for bringing this back to point. The Administration and its supporters want the discussions to appear as if complaints are about the lack of response militarily. That’s certainly disconcerting, particularly from an Administration wanting to cut back on defense to pay for corporatism. However, the issue is covering up a major attack by a sworn enemy of the United States, in which there is a mutually declared war, that suceeded in killing a US Ambassador, an envoy for peaceful relations to a nation.

According to Ms. Crowley (one day, changed her mind another day), Obama did admit once it was terrorism, and did so the very next day. So why did we hear for weeks after that it was instead a spontaneous outrage to a video and a protest that went too far. This is like suggesting the Boston bombers just wanted to set off fireworks at the finish line, and their attempt to use a pressure cooker as a safety barrier went a little too far. No in both cases, there was a plan set in motion at least days in advance to kill Americans. Why did the Administration, particularly the State Department, go to such lengths to pretend otherwise?

  2. There should be general outrage. There isn’t. America, as I grew up knowing it, does not exist. We had better start dealing with that reality. Could we get it back? Sure. But only by winning a war with the media that we are hardly fighting. We need hundreds of Breitbarts and not allow the media to marginalize them as [stupid, dumb, ignorant, people hating, Republican, Limbaugh loving,] cranks. We either win or we lose.

  3. Somewhere in that timeline of lies, it should be mentioned that all blame was focused on some inane YouTube video, of which the director, a coptic christian if i recall, was jailed and scapegoated. Typical US response. Islam attacks, jail and persecute a Christian or teaparty member
