President Scam Artist

If Barack Obama were in the private sector, he’d be prosecuted for fraud:

Justice Department guidelines, set forth in the U.S. Attorneys Manual, recommend prosecution for fraud in situations involving “any scheme which in its nature is directed to defrauding a class of persons, or the general public, with a substantial pattern of conduct.” So, for example, if a schemer were intentionally to deceive all Americans, or a class of Americans (e.g., people who had health insurance purchased on the individual market), by repeating numerous times — over the airwaves, in mailings, and in electronic announcements — an assertion the schemer knew to be false and misleading, that would constitute an actionable fraud — particularly if the statements induced the victims to take action to their detriment, or lulled the victims into a false sense of security.

For a fraud prosecution to be valid, the fraudulent scheme need not have been successful. Nor is there any requirement that the schemer enrich himself personally. The prosecution must simply prove that some harm to the victim was contemplated by the schemer. If the victim actually was harmed, that is usually the best evidence that harm was what the schemer intended.

Of course, there’s nothing new about that. Social Security has been a Ponzi scheme since its inception.

[Update a couple minutes later]

I would note that there is only one constitutional remedy to a president who engages in criminal activity. The Republicans should at least contemplate it as a potential campaign issue next fall, as the president’s poll numbers continue to tank.

  1. Yes the president has committed fraud but it doesn’t matter if there is no accountability.

We have three branches of government for the purpose of accountability.

The job of the media was supposed to be in support of accountability.

The voters are supposed to educate themselves to administer accountability.

Parents are accountable for not teaching their children.

We are accountable for allowing this to happen.

    1. The voters are supposed to educate themselves to administer accountability. Parents are accountable for not teaching their children. We are accountable for allowing this to happen.

Most of those voters spent the best part of the first two decades of their lives in government schools being told that government is just wonderful and lovely and anyone who says otherwise is evil. Most of their parents are too busy working to pay their taxes to home school their kids.

The left have been working the Western world into this position for decades, it’s not something that happened just recently.

  2. It’s appallingly clear that Obama is guilty of intentional fraud in several instances. Blaming Benghazi on a film (Hrmmm, now why does that bring to mind a certain fire in the Reichstag?) and Obamacare being just two.

In the case of Obamacare, we have proof that Obama not only lied, but knew he was lying, and was doing so to deceive Americans. That is fraud, plain and simple.

I never thought of this as impeachment grounds before, but I don’t see why it couldn’t be. It is, after all, a felony.

    1. Ya, no kidding. Obama has been dishonest from day one. Now that he is caught in the biggest lie of all, everyone should be asking what else is he lying about. Did he really know nothing about the IRS or Fast and Furious?

  3. I agree that the grounds are there, but impeaching two Democratic presidents in a row is going to look very bad for Republicans. They will need some Democrats to co-sponsor the resolution, even if it is mostly Republicans sending it over, and that will never happen. They don’t have the votes in the Senate.

    1. Yes but usually not this obviously, and usually not about something that is likely to piss off millions of voters. They also don’t usually do it with regards to things that will carry their names on them from now until the heat death of the universe. Only the truly stupid and arrogant attempt such things.

      1. Yeah, they do.

        “Missioned Accomplished”, remember?

The examples are endless. It’s. What. Politicians. Do.

But hey, next time you go to the voting booth you’ll forget all about this and think the next guy will be honest and true and has your best interests at heart and will call you the next day.

        1. “Missioned Accomplished”? You have picked a very bad example, for that was not a lie, it was a deliberate confusion of terms by the Press. The banner was not W’s, it was created by the Naval vessel, which had accomplished it’s mission.
