  1. I can picture the discussion:

    “Well, you know, explosive bolts are expensive, so let’s just use two, instead of three or four evenly spaced around the circumference of the interface. We can use cotter pins for the rest of the interface and hook the wires into the explosive bolts.”

    “That’s a very peculiar design, Steve. Did you check your math?”

    “The only risk is if they don’t all separate simultaneously. I mean, even if they didn’t, the upper stage would only drag behind the capsule hanging by one of the wires for a short time.”

    “Seriously, Steve? That’s going to make the thing roll. Check your math.”
