  1. Well stuff like this from Michelle Obama certainly reinforces the notion that they hate America. Sure, you can find in Wikipedia, a source to back it up… added March 21st of this year and pointing to an updated White House website that sources an article from 2009… But what’s the point in discussing it 200 years later? Well, she tells you; “It’s fair to say our founding fathers never could have imagined this day…”

Our Founding Fathers never imagined 9/11 either. They might have expected the British would burn down the White House in 1812, because that was a bit more of a concern to them at the time. Today, despite the Obama’s disdain, Britain is a special friend to the US. The Founding Fathers probably didn’t imagine that would happen. But the world progressed and moved on. The Obama’s and the leftist regressive friends have not. To them, the US original sin was becoming a nation. Even a civil war to end slavery is not sufficient for the regressives to forgive the US.

So this is a fair statement: “Tracing the new illiberalism historically to the radical Enlightenment, a movement that rejected the classic liberal ideas of the moderate Enlightenment that were prominent in the American Founding, Holmes argues that today’s liberalism has forsaken its American roots

    1. “Today, despite the Obama’s disdain, Britain is a special friend to the US. The Founding Fathers probably didn’t imagine that would happen. ”

I think they did imagine it could happen though I doubt they thought it was a sure thing.

This is from John Adams “presentation” to King George III after the Revolution:

“I shall esteem myself the happiest of men if I can be instrumental in restoring an entire esteem, confidence and affection, or, in better words, the old good-nature and the old good-humor between people who, though separated by an ocean, and under different governments, have the same language, a similar religion and kindred blood. “

  2. I’m sure “liberals” will deny it– mainly because they deny everything, especially their own fascist and authoritarian tendencies.
1920s: “Hey, comrades, we’ll never sell socialism to the backwards bourgeoisie, so let’s call ourselves ‘liberals!'” 1930s to the 2000s: “Don’t call us ‘socialists’! That’s unfair! We’re not even statists!” Of course now, with the rise of the Red Diaper Baby, a lot of the masquerade has been dropped; and of course we have an avowed socialist running for the Democratic presidential nomination, opposed only by the Alinskyite Witch..

  3. Wow, a new unexpectedly:

CHICAGO — Violent crimes — from homicides and rapes to robberies — have been on the rise in many major U.S. cities, yet experts can’t point to a single reason why and the jump isn’t enough to suggest there’s a trend.

Well you can point to several things, but when you have a community leader…

Still, it is stumping law enforcement officials, who are seeking a way to combat the problem.

Are you sure? Because this points to both a single reason and evidence that combating the problem isn’t the intention.

    1. I work with the police and instructed them to do everything that they could to make sure that the protesters were able to exercise their right to free speech

      Rioting is not free speech.

  4. …many supporting the “make America great again” slogan seem inclined to “hire a guard dog” by supporting Trump to protect them.

That identifies the problem. The left is going in for the kill simply because they have successfully isolated their opponents. Talk doesn’t do the job, but words do matter. When rioters (not protesters) can bloody Trump supporters and police just watch, the battle has been lost.

We are heading directly for civil war but w/o any clear ideological clarity or distinct front lines. It is going to be a mess. If I had my health I’d take the fight to the left. Instead I live in the sticks and watch the fall. It’s going to get very bloody.

The cockroaches on the left don’t even make a pretense of hiding any more.

    1. “the battle has been lost.”

Nope. If the left is pushing this hard, it is because their backs are against the wall. There are lots of parallels to 1968 – right down to a “not really a Conservative” Republican candidate, though this one has more charisma. And this time the influence of the legacy media is greatly diminished. You are not seeing “cockroaches of the Left”. You are looking at thugs, and a Left willing to use them. Only now, the media cannot frame the narrative.

Venezuela now looks like one of the later chapters of Atlas Shrugged. Heard much from Sean Penn lately? I know he showed his face in Cannes a week or so ago, probably not spending much time in Caracas though. Venezuela is the stake through the heart of a Sanders campaign if he is the nominee.

How much of Hillary’s time is taken away from the campaign by simply trying to stay out of a deposition with the FBI? And if she isn’t charged and somehow does get the Democrat nomination, that bathroom server is comedy gold for Trump.

      1. I hope you’re right Ed, but I find the police not dealing with the thugs extremely disturbing. Especially since the police seem to have no problem going after decent citizens.

        1. How long do you think the police can continue to function when they’re showing the people who pay their wages they they will not protect them, but will protect those who attack them? If the decent people come to see cops as just another gang of thugs, it’s game over.

The left have decided to start a civil war, and the cops will have to pick sides. Picking the side of the people who don’t pay their wages will not be a good plan.

          1. The problem with that is how the left funnels OPM around so you pay for it and they get the credit. This has been a problem for ages and on the rare occasions the right tries to unfund something (Acorn?) the left says, “no, problem. We’ll just change the name and keep the money flowing.”

One big surprise I’d like to see is Trump actually doing something about the problem because his first stab at it doesn’t work.

        2. In America, land of the armed citizen, if police won’t do their job someone else eventually will.

          1. The left are hoping that a Trump supporter fights back, because their comrades in the MSM will then plaster it all over the front page as proof that the right are violent thugs.

Though even that is likely to backfire, as most sane people would side with the man who fought back.

    2. Are they rioters? Sure, but the better way to describe them are as Democrat party operatives. These are not random uprisings but rather organized events put on by Democrat party activist groups.

How many of these groups are tax exempt nonprofits that get money from the government to engage in their activities?

      1. Right now, just going to a presidentjal event, a non-Democrat public speaker, or walking down the street wearing the wrong shirt requires you be ready for Democrats taking it to you.

Is there any facet of life not under assault by Democrats? They want to physically fight, pass laws to attack their enemies, use government agencies outside of the law, use mobs to terrorize their enemies, and control every aspect of your life from what you eat, the car you drive, the bathroom you use, how you have sex, and even searching your trash for food scraps.

The Democrats I know would never have supported this nonsense in the past but now, they are all cheering it on.

      2. In what manner?

Breitbart ’em. Ask them questions they should but can’t answer. In their face.

    1. Or Keanu from Keanu. Throw a kitty in a mob of neosocialists and watch them go gaga and turn from shouting obscenities to cooing baby talk.

  5. After I kill America, I’m going to skin it, cook it, and then feed it to the tired, poor, huddled masses yearning to breathe free, because they want to be American and… …you are what you eat!

    1. The Democrats waving Mexican flags, burning American flags, and chanting that America was never great, don’t appear to want to be Americans.

There is a huge block, possibly a majority, of Democrats that detest our country. There is a nationalist socialist running on authoritarianism and ending capitalism and about half the party wants to elect him.

      1. What has Sanders done that is “nationalist socialist” (which, c’mon, is a Hitler reference) or “authoritarian”?

I had to read your last sentence twice, because I thought you were referring to Trump. I hope there is discussion here of Trump’s comments on the family background of federal judges – now there’s an early-Hitleresque move.

        1. Democrats keep saying that hispanics hate Trump. Trump said a hispanic, who belongs to a racial supremacist group, isn’t treating him fairly.

I don’t see any reason to bring up the judge’s heritage. Bringing up his group memberships would have been a better route. But I think this is a case of Trump acting like Democrats. I don’t like it. I don’t want Republicans to start acting like Democrats.

If you don’t like Trump acting like Democrats, maybe you could also take a look at the racial identity politics the Democrats have been practicing the last 50 years? When you scapegoat innocents for everything that ever went wrong, you get things like Democrat mobs trying to lynch people in the streets.

These same Democrat activist groups are waving Mexican flags and shouting racial slurs while they beat people and burn the American flag.

I find Trump’s behavior disgusting and I find Democrat’s behavior even worse. How do you feel about the Democrat’s use of race?

        2. I hope there is discussion here of Trump’s comments on the family background

Not a day goes by where Democrats don’t attack people because of their family background and on a far larger institutionalized scale than Trump saying someone doesn’t like him.

Let’s ignore the broader use of Democrats attacking people’s heritage that goes on every single day. Have you heard of the term Drumph?

Why is it that Democrats to not play by the same rules they hold others to? How about Democrats live up to their own standards?

        1. In general, Wodun, you’ve made a lot of strong claims in your comments here, and maybe most people reading just nod their head in agreement, but I’ve been rolling my eyes. I’ve told you I always read what you write with interest, so I’ll make a wish: I wish you would provide more citations or links.

          1. I wish you would provide more citations or links.

There isn’t a link to interactions I have had with Democrats for my entire life. I live in a blue state and went through some of the most progressive departments in college and I’ve talked to many many many Democrats on the internet over the years.

Saying they love the country so much that it must be destroyed, isn’t love at all.

Maybe its a generational thing. But the old breed of Democrats are a dying breed. Jim Webb was viewed with horror by the audience in the debates.

        2. This poll suggests that 99% of Americans are at least somewhat proud of being American

          “…at least somewhat…”

          Wow, what enthusiasm.

And of course, that question has nothing to do with the premise of the post.

          1. I was responding to Wodun’s claim that “There is a huge block, possibly a majority, of Democrats that detest our country”. To get all the way to 99% of Americans, you need “at least somewhat proud”, but that’s a whole lot better than “detest”. Just to complete the logic of my refutation: I don’t think you can refer to 99% of Americans without referring to a majority of Democrats.

Like Wodun’s claim, I don’t think your claim that the Left hates the very idea of America is consistent with the Gallup poll, unless you think that “The Left” refers to 1% of America, which wouldn’t be unreasonable — true Leftists are indeed hard to find in America, because almost all Americans love America’s freedoms and system of government.

Or, by referring “the premise of the post”, are you referring to Kim Holmes’ contentions? I didn’t listen to Holmes’ interview with Justice Thomas’ wife, but I did read the Amazon summary of Holmes’ book “The Closing of the Liberal Mind”, and I read the Daily Caller interview, and frankly, I don’t think any of the comments here really properly address Holmes’ views — the comments here focused much more on your claim that the Left hates America.

          2. Barack Obama came into office with a promise to “fundamentally transform America.” Those aren’t the words of someone who loves America.

          3. Whoops, of course I mistyped: the Daily Caller’s piece isn’t an “interview”, just a summary of one. But now I finally noticed that the summary was by Ginni Thomas herself, which makes it more interesting.

          4. Rand, I love space travel, but I would like to fundamentally transform space travel. (And similarly, I love astronomy, but I would like to fundamentally transform astronomy — in fact, wow, that really gets me dreaming….)

I love computer programming, but I would like to fundamentally transform computer programming.

I could go on, but of course, the presumption is that the desired transformation of something you already love will be an improvement!

I think you’re just complaining that Obama dared to dream of a better America, which is the sort thing a staid conservative should be complaining about – not someone whose musings are transterrestrial!

          5. Bob, you have intentionally left out context. Obama’s change isn’t an improvement… it’s anti-American (I was going to refer to the affirmative but that would be too long a list.)

          6. But in any case, if you hate current space travel, it is the sort of passionate hate that is productive(!) and leads to labors of love. And if people feel that way about America, and want to improve it just as much as you want to improve space travel, well, then good!

        3. This poll suggests that 99% of Americans are at least somewhat proud of being American

          These reported Americans are not.

        4. Does the poll ask them about the founding fathers or if the founding of our country was illegitimate so the country is illegitimate? Some stupid poll isn’t going to be asking the right questions.

    2. Enjoy your picnic while you can, Sidetrack–because you can only kill the Golden Goose once. Then you’ll be too busy fending off the other starving masses. America equals liberty; liberty brings prosperity; prosperity brings a full belly.

        1. See all the Sheeple, joyously falling in lockstep behind the Shepherd . . .as the Left sharpens its knives. All those people lined up to see Bernie are getting practice for standing in bread lines (which Bernie said was a GOOD thing about the Soiet Union–no kidding!).

Bernie hasn’t Clue #1 about what makes America America. Or if he does he’s hostile to it.
