Really. He has a fundamental constitutional right to be a racially bigoted rear orifice. The notion of “hate crimes” is a politically correct abomination, and one that I hope the SCOTUS will resolve at some point.

Income Inequality
[Update a few minutes later]
This sentence encapsulates why this president is such a disaster economically: “The President thinks he can redistribute income without stifling economic growth.”
Universal Pre-School
…is bad for everyone.
Well, except for pre-school teachers.
This is one of the stupider ideas (among many stupid ones) in the presidents SOTU.
[Update a while later]
Note that there’s a bonus point in the link. School in general is a waste of time for most kids.
New Gun Laws
Could they spark massive civil disobedience?
The political class would do well to recall (if they’re sufficiently educated to have ever learned it) what it was that sparked the first American Revolution:
In obedience to your Excellency’s commands, I marched on the evening of the 18th inst. with the corps of grenadiers and light infantry for Concord, to execute your Excellency’s orders with respect to destroying all ammunition, artillery, tents, &c., collected there, which was effected, having knocked off the trunnions of three pieces of iron ordnance, some new gun carriages, a great number of carriage wheels burnt, a considerable quantity of flour, some gunpowder and musket balls, with other small articles thrown into the river. Notwithstanding we marched with the utmost expedition and secrecy, we found the country had intelligence or strong suspicion of our coming, and fired many signal guns, and rung the alarm bells repeatedly; and were informed, when at Concord, that some cannon had been taken out of the town that day, that others, with some stores, had been carried three days before …
This, not hunting, despite all of the nonsensical rhetoric about the latter, is the purpose of the Second Amendment.
Save The Crab Lice
Only two days left to sign the petition. It only needs 99,950 signatures.
Emotional Affairs
Can they be just as devastating as physical ones?
I can believe it, for women, for basic evolutionary psychological reasons. Men get upset by physical cheating, because it means he can’t know that the children he’s investing resources in are his, but women can be less upset about that (men will be men), instead concerned that a man will stray emotionally, and abandon her and the offspring.
The Crippled Cruise Ship
I’ve been thinking of writing a piece about how the passengers were transported back in time to when immigrants came over in steerage (or worse, were slaves chained in the hold, lying in their own filth for weeks), and still may, but Lileks has some biting criticism of the media coverage so far.
Strange Spam Du Jour
I just go this from the UK, subject, “Contract Dispute”:
Attention:
We seek an attorney who handles breach of contract matters.Let us know if
your firm takes such cases.Thank you
Edward Scholes.
No attachment, no web site to click through, nothing, but it has a return address and a reply-to of someone with that name. What is the purpose of this?
I guess one (bizarre) possibility is that it’s exactly what it would appear to be — someone looking for an attorney, and spamming the Internet to find one. It’s not like it costs anything. But you might get a lot more responses, many of them scams themselves, than you know what to do with.
Women
How some of them ruin everything for women.
Obviously, an unwelcome stolen kiss is rude. But “rapey”? Really?
Just another example of how the seventies feminists went more than a bridge too far.
And no, I’m not going to do my standard spiel about how Valentine’s Day is part of the war on men, but Jim Geraghty has some good thoughts.
But I will repeat that I always laugh when I hear about women wanting to know what men want on Valentine’s Day. Just show up. We’re not that hard to please. Especially for those of us who don’t have women.
And it’s not that long until Steak and a BJ Day (though I have to confess that when it comes to oral s3x, I think it’s far better to give than to receive, and I have no interest in watching fel**tio in pr0n).
Want A Concealed-Carry Permit In LA County?
Just make a campaign contribution to Lee Baca.
As Glenn notes, this is why the sheriff should have no such arbitrary power, which is only prevented by “shall issue.” Particularly since California took away open carry, making it almost impossible to defend yourself outside your home, I’d think that this would be ripe for a court challenge under Heller as a Second-Amendment breach.
