“The Meeting Was Really Kind Of Creepy”

Nope, no fascism to see here. Move along, people, move along.:

One topic under the microscope, our insider said, was on-air CNBC editor Rick Santelli’s rant two months ago about staging a “Chicago Tea Party” to protest the president’s bailout programs — an idea that spawned tax protest tea parties in other big cities, infuriating the White House. Oddly, Santelli was not at the meeting, while Jim Cramer was, noted our source, who added that no edict was ultimately handed down by the network chieftains.

As he notes, that’s the same White House that pretended yesterday that it was unaware of any of the tea parties.

  1. …to discuss whether they’ve turned into the President Obama-bashing network

Odd, I don’t remember anyone calling meetings to discuss whether they were turning into a Bush-bashing (or Clinton-bashing or Reagan-bashing, choose your favorite era) network.

  2. Citizens protesting high taxes “infuriated” the White House? Really? Of all the responses I could have imagined, the thought of someone who would actually be “infuriated” by citizen protest being in the White House fills me with dread.

To avoid ODS I like to re-emphasize to myself that Obama and I disagree on much (most?) but that he means well; but news stories like this start to convince me that this is not the case.

  3. Brock, ANY politician from the Chicago machine doesn’t mean well. Never have, never will.

  4. Brock, please note that it was the NY Post which claimed that the White House was infuriated. No one is claiming that Obama himself was infuriated, and the organization making the claim isn’t exactly known for its careful well-researched reporting.

Off-topic: Hey, Rand, I got involved in my town’s politics this week, speaking at a village board meeting against a law that I think is unnecessarily intrusive (even though it would have no impact on my life). When I sat down after talking about how if someone is not bothering anyone else, and is only guilty of breaking the law, then we ought to consider changing the law rather than risk intruding on people’s private business, I thought to myself “wow, if only Rand could see me now — I’m indistinguishable from a libertarian on this one!” Since I’m a leftist, I’ll mention that the law had nothing at all to do with sex, drugs, or rock and roll. And it remains to be seen whether liberty shall prevail!

  5. Bob, please note that the White House is a building. When referencing the White House as being infuriated, the NY Post meant the people who work and reside within the White House, not the actual structure.
