  1. Nazi, no. Fascist – most certainly. Fascist as in “corporatist.” That is the current form of government of the USA – democratic corporatist. You wouldn’t get anyone to admit it – but if you look at the facts, particularly at the relationship between government, unions, big business, etc. then its abundantly clear that we’ve been fascist/corporatist since FDR.

  2. RKV, “corporatist” has nothing to do with “corporation”. It’s a different derivation meaning “one body,” where all segments of society act as a single organism, the state. It’s a slight revision to Marxism where the class warfare is dropped and all the people in all positions are assumed to be working in harmony in a socialist utopia.

  3. It’s always difficult to define behavior. One thing is certain. The ties between big business and government are unhealthy and contrary to the liberty of free individuals.

[Corporatism] manipulates the marketplace to deliver goods to political constituencies.

Can anybody deny this? [of both parties but the left seems to do it better and more blatantly.] This is an evil corruption of our founding principles yet it’s out in the open for all to see. How can free people continue to allow it?

This is not all that different from the good german people allowing concentration camps in their midst. It really isn’t. Don’t good people puzzle over how the population, most of whom were not Nazis, let that happen? We are living in an analogous situation. Not with gas chambers (AFAIK) but with political parties controlling things to a degree they aught not.

It about control, manipulation and power. It’s blatant. Those that want liberty they marginalize with name calling and the population goes along with it. We are very sick these days and need to be cured. It’s not Obama. It wasn’t Hitler or Bin Laden. It’s a society that goes along.

  4. It will be a great world when individual businesses have all the money they need and Marxists have to hold a bake sale to buy poster paint.

  5. What’s the problem? You forgot the /sarc tag.

The problem is the proper role of government. Government has power it can trivially abuse. Not meaning that the abuse is trivial but that it is so easy that even a saint would have to carefully watch themselves.

Government should not have anything at all to do with business. At all. What about regulation? That’s the consumers job which they can only do if the media reports the truth. The government might have a role in making business more transparent so that consumers have the information they need to regulate business. The problem is even that leads to government abuse. Picking and choosing what information (even if only factual) can be used to manipulate winners and losers which the government should never be in a position to do.

Competition benefits everybody, including the losers. Government prevents competition from doing its job.

Man dominates man to his injury. Government is the most effective tool to produce injury. It’s nature is tyranny. Which is why the founders gave us the government they did (if we can keep it.)

  6. “The differences between and fascism are pretty much transparent to the user…”

Would you expand on this thought, please?

  7. George, I know what the political science definition of corporatism is, and that is what I meant – namely a species of fascism (think Mussolini). We exist in a country where private ownership of property remains nominal, however, the government has so much say (along with unions, NGOs and other constituencies of the fascist state) that property rights are greatly curtailed.

  8. The right of property has become an illusion in this country. If someone powerful wants your property for any reason it’s not too difficult for them to get it. They may not be able to get it for free but that doesn’t change the fact that it is still theft.

    Nominal indeed.

“The differences between communism and fascism are pretty much transparent to the user…”

To the average person living under communism or fascism, there is little difference. For example:

    1. Governments of both types frequently resort to secret police forces, concentration camps, and mass murder to maintain control.

    2. Speaking out against either form of government can be decidedly unhealthy, often not just for yourself but for your family, too.

    3. The people who run communist or fascist governments tend to live quite well while everyone else doesn’t. As Orwell wrote, “All pigs are created equal but some are more equal than others.”

  10. No one really owns property if you lose it for not paying taxes levied against it. The state owns it and you rent it.

  11. We’ve lost that battle here on earth (taxation is assumed.) Space provides a unique opportunity. Don’t accept government jurisdiction because except for their own ships they have none. Start fresh based on contracts and absolute property ownership (by making numerous small individual claims by possession which is both legally defensible and provides a sound economic base.) It doesn’t matter if others take a different path. It only matters that at least one group (preferably more) is based on the principle of absolute ownership (which is the foundation of both the inalienable rights of life and liberty.)

This point is huge, but only happens if people understand, believe and implement it. It’s so much more important than any business plan no matter how well conceived.

Anybody that makes Thomas choice, company town rules, deserves the result of their stupidity.

  12. It will be a great world when individual businesses have all the money they need and Marxists have to hold a bake sale to buy poster paint.

And the richest capitalist in the world has a monopoly on poster paint.

  13. Now Alan, that’s just sadistic. Besides, monopolies are very short lived under free enterprise. But ya gotta like the sentiment.
