The British foreign service used to say about many of the countries with which they had to deal was that their primary problem was the lack of a sense of irony. Apparently, it’s a deficiency shared by the president.

Every time he says something like this he is guilty of it like when he says we need more civility, he makes a bunch of nasty attacks the next day. When he says we need to be able to talk about entitlements without accusing people of having bad motives, he goes on to say Republicans want to kill old people. When he says we need to treat women better…
Maybe there is more to our President than the media is telling us.
