  1. I’m not sure why people keep claiming that something is going on Hong Kong. Every time I check the news on my Huawei P30 Pro, it’s calm as can be over there.

But yeah, it has a huge potential to turn ugly, like a giant version of Tiananmen Square, and that might wake people up to what China really is. So China might try to minimize the blow back by being at least somewhat clever, such as just cutting off the electricity and water and sweating them out. Or they might go for making a big, bloody example of what happens to people who resist China, and think they can just bluster away at any detractors and get away with it, just like Tiananmen Square.

But they’re going to have to act because if the mainland Chinese fully realize that they can also protest en masse and win if their numbers are large enough (unlike the prior student protest), it’s over for the communists.

Maybe but I’m doubtful. They have concentration camps right now, traffic human body parts, and use slave labor to manufacture goods consumed by people who claim to be devotees of Social Justice.

People look at the current trade dispute as uniquely evil for Trump to do while turning a blind eye to the decades of China abusing American companies. People just don’t care what China does, especially people in the tech industry.

I watch a lot of youtube tech channels and some of the biggest are Canadian. They don’t get into a big political discussion but they do touch on politics a little. They are mostly just concerned that the gadget and smart phone industries could suffer and not any of the underlying issues involving them.

  2. AdvChina is a great youtube channel to watch for perspective on China and Asia.

Who can say how things will play out but the potential is very ugly. China’s military buildup is centered on countering strengths of the USA in a way that allows them to invade Taiwan. In that context, they appear willing to use significant military force against places like Hong Kong as well.

Watch some videos on the channel I linked. There is broad support of the Communist government in China. There is no danger of some sort of popular uprising and whatever actions taken against Hong Kong will have a lot of support from the populace of mainland China.

  3. I foresee lots and lots of refugees. Since they will be essentially anti-communist refugees the left will be the ones keeping them out.

  4. I think the solution here is for Hong Kong to reorganize its government as a monarchy.

After that, no one would dare mess with its ruler, King Kong.
