This is beyond disgusting if true; the main reason the asteroid redirect test got funding is because of pork, not the real clear and present danger to everyone on earth.
That’s life on earth. You get what you want by giving whoever can give it to you, what he wants.
Bouncing large rockets off of asteroids to deflect them as a non-nuclear means of planetary defense. Aha! Finally, a role for NASA/SLS!
How much of this is the fact that modern technology has made the instruments finally available that we can actually -Do- this?
