Lawsuit Update

We thought we were going to hear next week if SCOTUS would grant our petition for certiori, but just heard that they’ve delayed it to the next conference on October 11. Apparently at least one justice is interested, but we can’t know if that’s because they want to move it to a less-crowded conference than next week’s for fuller discussion, or because they know they’ll turn it down, but want to write a dissent.

  1. I can’t help but think how utterly, utterly insane it is that a comment on a website is now up for consideration by the Supreme Court.

The real damage here IMHO is the whole “the process is the punishment” angle, because the accused have been dragged through the mill for years, incurring all manner of hardships (stress, financial, time, etc) while having been convicted of nothing. This is, very clearly, an attempt to stifle free speech via imposing a legal nightmare.

  2. I think I’ve told you this before, Rand, but it’s a long way to certiori – it’s a long way to go.

  3. Take me home, country courts, to the place, I beeelooong.
A certiori, mountain of paper, take me home, country court…

  4. By the way, unless they’ve changed something since I studied pre-law back in the late ’80s, it’s certioari.

    1. Certiorari. So even us pre-law washouts can misspell it. Once.

The second time, the school that conferred what diplomas we did manage to get, show up on our front porches demanding their return.
