  1. I remember the Centennial Olympic Park bombing in great detail. Throughout my work day and night, I had KFI AM 640 in Los Angeles on in the background. Late at night, the news came through of the discovery of the bombs, and the death of one person. That was during the “Mr. KFI” show with Mark Germane, IIRC. Richard Jewell’s name came to the fore quickly, at first as a hero, and then as the prime suspect. As the tide of press fury turned against him, one of the KFI host teams, John and Ken, discussed the matter. Again, IIRC, it was John Kobylt who first asked the question: “What if it wasn’t him?” At that moment, poor Mr. Jewell had been convicted by the press, and his life ruined. Kobylt was (and is) a very perceptive and insightful person. He went through the entire scenario in just a few minutes, thinking out loud. It eventually played out exactly as he had foreseen.

Richard Jewell was not only cleared, the actual bomber was found. Mr. Jewell is reputed to every year have visited the spot where Alice Hawthorne, the one person killed by the bombs died, and placed a rose there. Mr. Jewell, unfortunately, died at the age of 44 of heart disease and complications of diabetes. I’m glad that this film has been made. His memory deserves it.
