  1. The powers that be are afraid that someone will take a shot at him (legal or literal) if his identity is confirmed. But they’re not doing this because they want to prevent vigilante justice: if he gets killed, it would demoralize their other enforcers (re: Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn), and they can’t have that.

    1. Strangely, considering that over half the country thinks Trump was deposed in a crooked election, there has been damn little actual violence from Trump supporters. On one level I’m gratified, on another level I predict that the GOP will not capture the House or Senate because vote fraud has now been shown to be a crime without punishment.

  2. D.C. policeman Jeffrey Smith, 35, and Capitol Police officer Howard Liebengood, 51, took their own lives a few days after Babbitt’s death.

It is not uncommon for honorable policemen to be overcome with grief and remorse after a shooting — even a “righteous shoot”.

It would arguably be kind of the news media to respect the families of the suicidal cops and not to allow their names to be dragged into the spotlight in such a circumstance.

I’m not saying either of these honorable men was involved in the problematic and tragic death of a US veteran. But I am saying there may be plausible and honorable reasons for keeping the name of the cop who did the shooting out of the news. I detail one such reason just for example.

There may also be DIS-honorable reasons for doing so. It’s very hard to trust the news judgement of our media regarding such decisions.

    1. “But I am saying there may be plausible and honorable reasons for keeping the name of the cop who did the shooting out of the news.”

No. He assassinated an unarmed protester that presented no threat or danger. Not only was she not being violent, she was a teeny tiny person he could have restrained physically if needed and/or he could have asked for assistance from the multitude of cops she was standing next to. The cop fired from concealment and then ran away, like a coward. He should be in jail and we should know his name.

By Democrat standards, it was a hate crime too.

    2. Also, think of the precedent for use of force. Police have not used live rounds against protesters these last 6 years despite scores murdered, countless innocent civilians beaten, news crews attacked, and billions of property damage, not to mention thousands of injured police officers.

Does letting this dirty cop get off mean that cops in Portland, DC, NYC, and other cities get to use live rounds against rioters actually engaged in violent acts? Of course not but it shows the two tiered system we live in where Democrats can burn, loot, and murder with no punishment and Democrat government officials can murder people and use the DOJ and CIA to spy on them and prosecute them.

    3. I understand your point pouncer, but in providing your point; you hit on why we should know the name. Without knowing who, we are left to wonder if maybe it was Jeffrey Smith or Howard Liebengood. It wasn’t both, but mentioning in the discussion brings the air of unjustified dishonor to at least one of them.

Other plausible reasons for keeping government officials name out of the press could come into play, but those are usually for covert operations. What was the covert operation here? Well, there wasn’t one, because operations are an Executive Branch item, and this was someone in the Capitol. Which brings us to the real reason we don’t know. The Capitol doesn’t feel like it has to answer to either other branch, the Executive or the Judicial. The result is they also feel like they don’t have to answer to the American people.

There’s little recourse short of another election or what Democrats want to believe happened, insurrection. As days go by, we know no insurrection occurred. The only lives lost to action were due to action taken by the Capitol Police. We know not under whose direction. We do know that similar protests have occurred without direction to action.

Far more people stormed the Senate building during the Kavanaugh hearings. Republicans will talk about the fellow Representatives bringing protestors to their office. And hundreds occupied the Wisconsin Capitol for weeks just a decade ago without injury.

We could demand answers, but to prevent us from making demands; Biden and Pelosi have put razor wire with military guards between us and them.

      1. “We could demand answers, but to prevent us from making demands; Biden and Pelosi have put razor wire with military guards between us and them.”

And they didn’t deploy the National Guard to deal with the Democrat riots in DC a couple days ago.

        1. Nothing quite says “We won a legitimate election fair and square” like surrounding the Capital with barbed wire fences and thousands of military personnel.

  3. Some less mainstream (and not as reputable?) conservative websites supposedly identified the shooter based on a pic of his arm wearing a unique bracelet. According to them he’s black and a Brazilian immigrant BLM supporter who has made violent social media posts about Trump supporters in the past. That makes sense either in terms of why the government would not want his identity to be known or in terms of a conservative click bait blog which would make the claim because its too good not to make.

  4. I shouted out “Who killed Ashley Babbit?”
Well after all it was you and me.
    Let me please introduce myself
I’m a man of wealth and taste
Pleased to meet you, hope you guess my name, oh yeah
But what’s puzzling you is the nature of my game, ah yeah…

  5. One of the four rules of firearms safety is to always know what is behind your target. Combined with the second rule, which is to never point your weapon at something you are not willing to destroy, it means that you never even point your weapon at something or someone who is in front of innocent people. The person who murdered Ashli Babbitt fired at her while she trailed a sea of AR-15 bearing police. That by itself should open the murderer to a charge of reckless endangerment of the other Capitol Police.

    1. Very strongly suggesting that whoever the shooter is, they’re not just a reckless member of the capitol police. They’re a VIP of some description, or were acting on orders from a VIP.

      1. According to multiple photographs that I’ve seen, the cop was indeed black. At one time he was identified as “David Bailey,” but the Official Word is that this was a misidentification.

I’ve seen the claim — and I don’t know whether it’s true or false — that the door that Babbitt was trying to bypass opened into a hallway that led to Nancy Pelosi’s office, and that at least some of the protesters hoped to grab her laptop. Perhaps what the unidentified cop was guarding was more important than a mere human life … to certain people.

Also, Antifa member/sympathizer John Sullivan was present with a videographer. I have read that Sullivan saw the cop’s drawn weapon and shouted “THERE’S A GUN!” … which may have misled the cop into thinking that one of the protesters was about to take a shot. But if Babbitt was climbig through a transom, she shouldn’t have been his target. Sullivan was arrested and released, a fate contrary to that of other protesters arrested there.

The big mystery is why the cop (I keep wanting to type “mall cop”) didn’t at least face a charge of manslaughter and/or reckless discharge of a firearm. Has he returned to active duty?

The Feds may not have anything illegal to hide, but by gum they’re sure acting as though they have something illegal to hide.
