Earth Day

Celebrating half a century of failed predictions.

[Update a couple minutes later]

John Kerry, moron: ” ‘Even if we get to net zero, we still need to get carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere,’ Kerry said. ‘This is a bigger challenge than a lot of people have really grabbed on to yet.’ “

I wonder if he knows that without CO2 in the atmosphere, almost all life on earth would die?

  1. Because we all know the Little Ice Age was a climate optimum whereby everyone “learned their place” relative to the hearth….

    From Wikipedia’s article on the LIA:
    The violin maker Antonio Stradivari produced his instruments during the Little Ice Age. The colder climate is proposed to have caused the wood used in his violins to be denser than in warmer periods, contributing to the tone of his instruments.[34] According to the science historian James Burke, the period inspired such novelties in everyday life as the widespread use of buttons and button-holes, and knitting of custom-made undergarments to better cover and insulate the body. Chimneys were invented to replace open fires in the centre of communal halls, so allowing houses with multiple rooms, separation of masters from servants.[35]

    [35] Burke, James (21 September 1978). “Thunder in the Skies”. Connections. BBC.

    2. The Connections(BBC) was both entertaining and an endless supply of examples of the Post hoc, ergo propter hoc” fallacy. Just because an alchemist invented glass instruments and mercury does not mean that thermometers or barometers are inevitable…

  2. I didn’t realize it was Earth Day until it was half over. Fortunately, that still left me enough time to celebrate via going 4-wheeling in my SUV, and turning every light in my house on all night.

  3. Since Mr. Biden has stated that climate change is an existential threat to humanity, and he appears to love legislating via executive orders, why not issue EO’s to put his money where his mouth is? Here’s a few for starters

    EO #1: Reduce the speed limit on all federal highways to 55 MPH, just as Nixon did in the 70’s;

    EO #2: Direct the Department of the Interior to plant 1 million trees every year on public lands as an increased CO2 sink. Something similar was done in the 1930’s to build up wind breaks to combat soil erosion after the dust bowls, IIRC;

    EO #3: Direct all federal buildings to turn off lighting (except emergency and security) during non business hours. Encourage businesses to do the same.

    All of these would reduce HGH emissions, and show that something is being done (one can argue the effectiveness, but if it saves just one polar bear…).

    Of course, with modest proposals like these there is little to no opportunity for graft or corruption. Reasons enough as to why they will never happen.

  4. After dozens of failed apocalyptic predictions by “climate modelers” the only reason this pseudo science is still around is that it’s a political swindle. “Green” energy projects are methods for laundering political kick backs to Democrat politicians. That and it’s now a 6 billion dollar industry. The worst part, besides the waste of public money is that it’s perverting and destroying the credibility of science in general.

    Just one of many examples.

  5. Musk has put out a $100 million Carbon Removal X Prize.

    “The Carbon Removal X Prize challenges entrants to demonstrate ways to remove large amounts of heat-trapping carbon dioxide from the air or oceans and lock it safely away for long stretches. The competition is open to anyone around the globe, and it will run through 2025.
    ………………………
    It should be clear to everyone in 2021 that climate change poses an existential threat, and that our CO2 emissions are a leading cause,” Marcius Extavour, X Prize vice president of climate and environment, said in a statement. ”

    Well Musk just bought himself $100 million protection from the Climate Religionistas
