  1. The best option here now, with the fall of Mariupol, is to let Putin declare victory, freeze the lines and stop the war. After Putin has died these things can be re-negotiated. And *our* cities remain intact. I know, sounds cowardly, but it’s realpolitik in the nuclear age. I think the real victory here is getting Sweden and Finland into NATO. Pushing it forward hard risks tactical nukes. The only real war fighting strategy to push for a Ukrainian ‘victory’ is the assassination of Putin with the subsequent capitulation of Russia. Good luck with that. And it doesn’t solve the problem of the break-away regions of the Donbas that want to be Russian. #nodoginthatfight

    1. Chamberlain would approve of what you wrote. It’s up to the Ukrainians to decide if those terms are acceptable. As of now, that doesn’t appear to be the case.

And if a tactical nuke goes off inside Ukrainian territory I’m perfectly willing to let Ukraine decide what its next actions are.

        1. It’s not my fault Ukraine didn’t start stockpiling VX after they gave up their nukes. Deterrence requires a deterrent.

    2. I see your point of view and that might happen but if it did, people would be claiming it was a success when the reality is Russia got exactly what they wanted. The narrative would be Russia lost even though they kept all the land they were after.

How about the break-away regions of the Donbas that don’t want to be Russian? At some point, we have to realize that recognition of the games that Russia has played over the past 8 years is just appeasement. It doesn’t fix the underlying problems.

But it depends on who follows him. More of the same with subsequent invasions of Russian neighbors by unstable dictators with fingers on the nuclear trigger won’t be an improvement.

I think we need a better strategy than hope the next one is better.

I think a great irony here is that one of the big complaints allegedly driving the Russians to invade are the color revolutions of which the Euromaidan revolution of 2014 was one such. These are spun as the machinations of western intelligence.

But such a revolution in Russia to a more democratic system would defuse most of the situation (though Russia likely would still want to keep Sevastopol). Maybe it’s time for the West (not just Western governments) to see how that change can be assisted.

Technically that wouldn’t be break-away, since Ukraine claims sovereignty over the entire region. However, I repeat my hash tag: #nodoginthatfight along with #americafirst. I’m fine with rooting for Ukraine, up to a point. One that does not involve seeing the flash. Besides appeasement gets a bad rap. We’ve done it plenty of times. Ask South Korea… We missed our chance at nuclear hegemony the day we decided not to nuke the Russian nuke labs in the 40s. Nukes for me but not for thee.

Oligarchs that can freely travel in the west w/o fear of arrest vs those who can’t?

  3. There’s got to be a place for Deep State, the Bidens and Clintons to launder another 8Billion taxpayer’s money. Ukraine is that place now. What do you suggest? Chevy Chase, MD? Delaware?

      1. Keeping the money home would just cause near-term inflation, way too obvious.

Seems like we are setting Europe up for a decision between cheap money and cheap energy. I don’t see how that works out for us in the long run, but controlling the reserve currency means lots of hats filled with rabbits.

  4. Unfortunately if will mattered the mohammedans would have stopped fighting Israel decades ago

  5. Why is it that we couldn’t do propaganda like this to support our wars and the people who would have been the most upset about it are the ones amplifying Ukrainian propaganda? Watching the herd behavior on this one has been interesting.

Rather than support our country, our media propagandizes against it. Good to know we will stick up for Ukraine as our own country is being run by people who want it to cease existing.
