54 Years On

Neil and Buzz landed on the Moon on this day. It’s now been over half a century since the last man kicked up the regolith there. I’ll be on The Space Show this evening (1900 PDT) to talk about it, and space in general.

[Late-morning update]

Anniversary thoughts from Rick Tumlinson. He worries too much about the “climate crisis,” though. And he’s fooling himself if he really thinks that China is worried about it.

  1. “…and fusion-enabling Helium-3 mined on the moon.” That’s a dumb reason to go to the moon! He3 isn’t all that rare on Earth, I have 25g sitting on my desk right now, I think I paid like $2500 for it. So if my recollection is right, it’s only a little more expensive than gold.

Not only that, if we needed more of it, it’d be easy to scale up production and reduce the cost.

  2. The average temperature of China is about 8 C.
Why would anyone want it, colder?

Saying CO2 will cause warming is doubtful in any significant way, but Tibet would nicer if a a lot warmer, and if CO2 warms, it’s something one can hope for.
