  1. She’s not an unattractive woman. What confuses me is why, after centuries of examples, people are confused by crazy.

Blue eyed blond guys near the arctic being no exception.

  2. I wonder why it took something less than four and a half years to discharge her (the time depends on when exactly the panel of admirals recommended she be discharged.)

  3. I always felt a bit sorry for her. She tried to be Supermom (naval officer, mother, wife & astronaut), but instead she had a s super flame out.

  4. Yeah, even NASA moved faster than the Navy. Weird that they would let her on base after she had been ditched by NASA.

  5. Depends could really boost sales by marketing to video game addicts. For some people a bottle under the desk is too much work.

  6. Yea – lets all make fun of someone with emotional and mental problems. Makes you feel better once you have, right?

Oh yes, she is the poster child for the criminal that should be seen as a victim. The only reason can have fun at Novak’s expense, is because she failed to accomplish her goal of kidnapping the woman and killing her. But hey, according to Yurik, Novak was only trying to kill a person because of her mental instability.

Sure it didn’t have anything to do with basic envy?

  8. Not everyone who does an evil or stupid thing is mentally ill, Carl. If she were truly mentally ill, it seems likely the Navy would’ve given her a medical discharge years ago instead of keeping her in the service so long.

  9. If I made a Depends commercial I’d use the ‘Lean On Me’ song in the background.

  10. Envy explains her actions. Calling her mentally ill brings into question how she passed such screening by NASA and USN.

  11. More evidence that the people who frequent this website have certain personality disorders as well …

  12. Are you speaking of yourself Yurik? Here are some facts:

Novak had an affair over 2 years while married. Such an affair is against NASA policy, but more over is a violation of the USMCJ for both her and Oefelein. Are you, Yurik, saying having an affair is a mental disorder?

Novak divorced her husband and gained custody of her children. Are you, Yurik, saying a Texas judge put Novak’s children in her care with a mental disorder?

Novak, having just ended her marriage to be with Oefelein, finds out Oefelein is no longer interested in her because of another woman. Novak then does what many jilted women have done, she tried to either kill or scare off her competition. As you, Yurik, claiming that all those other women have mental disorders?

After being considered mentally competent to stand trial, Novak was found guilty of burglary and given a year probation. She had threatened to use an insanity claim, but did not. So if Novak and her attorney don’t think she has a mental disorder, why Yurik are you defaming her?

If you’re only answer is to respond with something as stupid as this:
the people who frequent this website have certain personality disorders Then you’re just a troll. Are you a troll, Yurik, or do you have something to back up your claim that Lisa Novak has mental disorders? Something more than her consideration of a legal motion that would have just bought her time in a trial. After all, if she had a mental disorder, why did the Navy keep her employed for another 4 years?

  13. Who’s hating trolls? Some people think cats hate mice, but really cats like beating around the mice. I don’t hate you, that would require me to care about you. I’m just identifying you for what you are. Now that you admitted you’re a troll, we can save other people the trouble of giving you any credibility. And we can laugh at you when you whine about being mistreated.

  14. Yurik… So you and Charlie Sheen are ‘Winning?’ Eventually the cat gets tired of playing with the mouse. The thing is, the mouse is showing more intelligence than the troll. The mouse never assumes winning is having the cat bat them around.

  15. Leland, I vaguely remember the theory that Nowak was trying to actually harm the other woman seemed a little weak at the time, and the fact that she wasn’t later convicted of any personal crime at all — not even threat or conspiracy or whatnot — makes me wonder if that was the case. Was there credible evidence she was after the other woman to actually do her harm? Not just to yell at her, spy on her, whatever? I ask out of ignorance and a bit of curiosity.

  16. I don’t remember her ever meeting up with the other woman, just having some interesting (but lawful) things with her. But my swiss cheese memory should not be relied on here.

  17. I don’t think the question was credible evidence. I think that existed by looking at what she purchased and placed in her car before heading out. The problem, as I recall (and reverified here), is she got a good lawyer, who convinced the judge to throw out much of the evidence that could be shown to a jury.

I fully appreciate that our legal system should protect the innocent. And while I’ve read others that suggest she may have attempted murder, I’m not ready to go that far. I do believe she intended to kidnap, based on the duct tape and other material that could have been used to restrain, but that apparently can’t be proven in a court of law. I think what is being claimed as mental illness is her ineptitude in carrying out the assault. I personally blame the lack of planning and her lack of rest.

Personally, I’ve seen no evidence of mental disorders. Her willingness to commit a crime is not evidence of a mental disorder. Do I think she had an emotional breakdown? Yes I do. In fact, I was disappointed that others couldn’t have picked up on it. You have a woman driven to aspire. She reached her life long ambition at a rather young age. Then she, all of a sudden, had nothing else to acheive. She had a military career, advanced degrees, she’d flown in space, had a successful marriage, a couple of kids, and a great extra-marital sex life. But she’d never fly in space again (the reason for the career and education), her marriage was falling apart, and the final straw, she was losing her boyfriend. She was probably devistated. But that’s not a mental disorder, and its not a reason to attack another person.

“Funny how you troll haters respond so readily to troll bait.”

The first rule of Troll Club is not talking about Troll Club.

  19. Yurik, I used to walk to work and home, uphill both ways in the snow. I didn’t even have a cubicle. They gave me a wood desk in a hallway. Finally, moved to a new building and got a huge office for myself and the bosses hand me down desk.

I’ve never bitten the head off a chicken. I prefer space nerd.

  20. Ken, you’re a little too familiar with the etymology: are you sure you didn’t do a little geeking on the side, like, during your college days?
