This is unfortunate. They have a better understanding of liberty than 51% of Americans. Maybe we can do a trade.
I suppose it would be imprudent to suggest that Hong Kong’s problems might be eased if persons unknown smuggled in – perhaps via SEAL teams working from submarines – small arms and portable anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons. Not enough to storm the mainland, obviously, but enough to give a right bloody nose to the jackboot crowd over there. This has the advantage of keeping the US military out of somewhere it has no business being and giving Beijing more of an incentive to negotiate.
China has been looking for an excuse to crack down on the demonstrations. Fighting in the streets with small arms and such gives them the necessary pretext. Perhaps, they’ll do it themselves.
